  • Notes
    • 1820 White Co IL census reflects both a George STORY Sr (1 free white m 21 +, 1 other white inhabitant) and a George STORY Jr (1 m 21 +, 4 other) This must be George and his son. At this time his youngest known child would have been well grown - probably just him and his wife in the home.

      "George Story (2) 1851 - 18??) married Susie Elder (1769 - 1850)
George Storey, second son of George and Nancy Cantor Storey, was the first child born in the Fairforest settlement. He served during the Revolution as a Lieutenant of Horse in Capt. Robert Farris's Company from February 7, 1779 to June 6, 1779; also as a Private Horseman in Capt. Hugh Means's Company from June 8 to December 17, 1780. (Record No. X 1300). He also served in 1770 as an Indian fighter, being paid by Tyrone County, North Carolina, which county is just a few miles north of Fairforest.
Hugh Means, Joseph Kelso, Samuel Clowney, Andrew Mayes, and John Elder served with him. George moved to Buncombe County, N. C., and then to Kentucky, and finally to Hamilton County, Illinois. Since there is no record of George's grave, he might have died along the route. Susie Elder Storey is buried in Illinois."

      «b»WILL OF GEORGE STOREY (1725-1805)«/b»
In the name of God, Amen, I George Story of the State of South Carolina, and Spartanburg County, being In Common health of my body and my memory as perfect as I could expect considering the frailty of Body thanks be to God for his long continuation of favors to me - But calling to mind the mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die . . .
Do make and ordain this my last will and Testament That is to say principally and first of all it is my sincerest desire to resign and commit my soul that immortal part into the hands of that Blessed Jesus who suffered to redeem sinful men from everlasting torment and my body to be buried in a decent manner at the discretion
      of my Executors . . . .
And as touching such worldly estate as it has pleased God to bless me with I give and devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.
lst I give and bequeath unto my well beloved Daughter, Margaret Elder the negro girl named Sall which she has now in her possession.
2dly I give and bequeath unto my well beloved son, George Story a negro girl named Fanny also one negro boy named Derre which Is to remain with his mother until he is three years old, also all my wearing apparel.
3dly I give and bequeath to my Daughter in Law, Nancy Story the one third part of twenty acres of land, one negro man named Leath which said negro she is to have for the space of ten years after my decease and at the expiration of said time the aforesaid negro Leath is to be sold and equally devided among all the children of the aforesaid Nancy Story, also twenty acres of land being a part of the third part of twenty acres of land Is a part of a tract of land laid out to George Story, Jr. lying next to the land whereon the said Nancy Story now lives and along a line of marked trees and also I give and bequeath unto the youngest son of the said Nancy Story three pounds to be put out at interest until he comes of the age of twenty one years also seven pounds to be paid for the schooling of the children of the aforesaid Nancy Story.
