    • NEWS: 14 May 1926, Lebanon, Laclede County, Missouri, USA; The Laclede County Republican: "William Carter Wood The funeral of William Carter Wood, who died of heart trouble on Sunday, May 2, on his farm, in the Oakland neighborhood, was held last Wednesday afternoon, May 5, at 2:30 o'clock, at Antioch church, at Oakland. The officiating minister was Rev. Harry Zumwalt, of Richland, whose funeral service was beautiful and impressive. Interment was in Antioch cemetery. The large crowd present was an evidence of the high esteem in which Mr. Wood was held in his home neighborhood, many attending also from Lebanon and other points in the county. William Carter Wood was a son of George Wood and was born at Oakland in 1858 on the farm on which he died, his entire life of 68 years having been lived there. On April 3, 1887, he was married to Miss Lydia N. Edwards and to this union five children were born. The wife and five children all survive him. The children are: Mrs. Walter West, of Lebanon; Mrs. Gertrude McNamara, Mrs. Florence Wheaton and Mrs Ida E. Harvey, all of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Virgil Wood, of Gowrie, Iowa. All of them, with their families, came for the funeral. The surviving grandchildren are Grace, robert, Charles, Hazel and Wilma West, all of Lebanon, and Joan Wood, of Gowrie, Iowa. One sister, Miss Jane Wood, of Oakland, and five brothers, Frank Wood, of Lebanon, and Thomas, Walker, Eli and Charles wood, all of Oakland, also survive him. Mr. Wood's death was most unexpected. he had been declining for the last two year and the last six months had noticeably failed in health though his condition did not indicate that the end was so near. On the day of his death he had eaten his supper as usual and ha gone to the pasture to bring up the cows, as was his usual custom. When he did not return the family became alarmed and a search was made for him, the body being found in a field, between 10 and 11 p.m. by George Rollins and Walker Wood. Mr. Wood was one of Laclede County's honored citizens, faithfully meeting his obligations in every relation in life. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church for forty years and in his daily life lived the principles taught by the Christ he served."
