    Notes:

From Mary Hayden Houck's 1929 Genealogy:

Nathaniel, Jr., was born in New Jersey, November 29, 1755, and died in Rostraver Twp. September 15, 1845. His will, which is recorded in Greensburg, is very clear and concise. We have a copy of it, but it is too lengthy to be read here today. To Nathaniel and his wife, Abigail, were born 10 children, Permela, Zerah, Jonathan, Nathaniel, Abigail, Phoebe, Joseph, Thomas, Elsie, and Mary. I think we have here today descendents of just three of these: Jonathan, Thomas, and Zerah. According to the will, several of these had gone to Ohio before their father's death. ...... [In] 1793 on November 7, we find recorded in the Deed Book that Nathaniel Hayden [Jr.] bought 200 acres of land on the Monongahela River in Rrostraver Twp. for five shillings, lawful money of Pa. On June 3, 1796, he received a grant of land from the state containing 168 acres and allowance for 6% for roads. This tract joined his other land, and formed quite an estate. It was called "Hard Water" and described as being in the "Forks of the Yough River". He built the first shingle-roof house between the Monongahela and Youghiogheny Rivers. This was used by him as a hotel and called "The Big House".
