Margaret Leggett appears in the home of Truss in 1880, as his single daughter, and Margaret Moore's marriage was in abt 1883, which matches up. There is, however, another Maggie Leggett in the area, married to Allen Robinson.

But the original will contained these words: "I give and bequeath to Malcolm Alfords two negroes Tristam called Truso and Harry his name having been changed by me from Truss to Harry . . . .?
• MILITARY: 27 Mar 1865, Goldsoro, Wayne County, North Carolina, USA; Truss enlisted on this date, Co. A, 135th U.S. Colored Troop. See article of 19 March 2018, The Laurinburg Exchange, "Civil War Soldier Descendants Sought. Details that Sherman's March picked up many blacks around Bennettsville and environs who traveled with him to Fayetteville and then on to Goldsboro, laying road in front to keep them moving. In Goldsboro they were formed into the 135th USCT and issued blue uniforms with brass eagle buttons. They marched in the Grand Review before President Lincoln under their own regimental flag in May 1865, This article says they were the only "colored troop" in the Grand Parade. See his 20-page service record. He also has a pension file, will have to wait until NARA reopens to obtain it.
