Lloyd, believed to have been about 63, had been employed by the concern for about 15 years. He was working alone at the time of his death and was discovered by Douglas White, yard foreman, who notified Englewood Police. Death was believed due to heart failure. The dead man is survived by his wife and a son and daughter. Police also reported the death of . . . [unrelated death of another individual]."

See article of 19 March 2018, The Laurinburg Exchange, "Civil War Soldier Descendants Sought. Details that Sherman's March picked up many blacks around Bennettsville and environs who traveled with him to Fayetteville and then on to Goldsboro, laying road in front to keep them moving. In Goldsboro they were formed into the 135th USCT and issued blue uniforms with brass eagle buttons. They marched in the Grand Review before President Lincoln under their own regimental flag in May 1865, This article says they were the only "colored troop" in the Grand Parade. See his 20-page service record. He also has a pension file, will have to wait until NARA reopens to obtain it.
