Spent time on Fold3, as he would be the right age for CW service. Several William A. Hills from IL, but nothing to suggest which one might be him. Also soldiers/sailors site, which offered these possibles: Hill, William A. Side: Union Location: Illinois Battle Unit: 148th Regiment, Illinois Infantry Function: Infantry Hill, William A. Side: Union Location: Illinois Battle Unit: 156th Regiment, Illinois Infantry Function: Infantry Hill, William A. Side: Union Location: Illinois Battle Unit: 49th Regiment, Illinois Infantry Function: Infantry Two Hill wills in Will Book A (1847-1859), pp. 94 (Eli) and 210 (Eldridge). Eldridge mentions brother John W., checked 1850 census and Eldridge was a reasonably young man and from Rhode Island, not PA. Neither appeared to be likely relatives of George Hill. Checked Probate book A (1849-1851), only Eli Hill.
