  "After grandma\'s mom [Minnie Ellen Hill] died, she was \'laid out\' in the living room for a few days until a grave could be dug in the frozen ground. Grandma Hill [Mary Ward Hill] came and helped dress her and someone sat up 24 hours a day with the body. After she was buried, they all (the girls and Grandma Hill) came home and was faced with cleaning up everything where Grandma Storey been prepared for burial was laid out. Grandma said she always had horrible memories of that job."

The Story Resource book offers their marriage date as 22 Mar 1884. However, the Howell Co Marriage book states: S. P. Story- Minnie M. Hill 23 Feb 1884, by J. W. Mustion, MG.

The latter must be in error, as the marriage license application is dated 22 March 1884.

It states Sam's age as 28, and Minnie's age as 14.

Sangamon Co IL? I found a reference on ancestry.com which indicates that Minnie Ellen HILL was born 4 Aug 1869 in Sangamon Co IL. This county is right next door to Morgan Co IL, where the family is found in the 1860 census.

Illinois marriages online show the marriage of William HILL and Mary WARD in 1860. In the same year, William and Mary are found in the Cass Co IL census (states of birth and ages appropriate). Additionally, Aunt Leah Story Carter had told Betty Dugger Bird that Mary's last name was WARD.

There is a Mary Hill - no dates - buried at the Langton-Howell Valley Cemetery.
