"Clark Boy Killed In Auto Accident Near Braddyville Iowa Women Dangerously Injured in Collision Saturday Night. Six Skidmore Youths Serve as Pallbearers Roland Clark, 19 years of age, was killed almost instantly Saturday night in an automobile collision five miles east and two and a half miles north of Braddyville, Ia. He was driving alone en route to Maryville from a farm near Braddyville where he was employed. He generally visited over the week ends with his sisters in Maryville. A woman and a child in the other automobile were critically injured, and another woman's injuries were less serious. Mrs. Forrest Richardson of Shambaugh is in a hospital at Shenandoah, Ia., where her condition is said to be critical. She suffered a broken pelvic bone and crushed vertebrae. Mrs. Billy Babb, also of Shambaugh, is being treated at her home, but her 2 1/2 year-old daughter is in an Iowa City hospital. View Obstructed The young man was said to have been driving east and was turning south at an intersection. A slight knoll at the turn apparently obstructed the view from the south and the car in which the women were driving struck Clark's automobile in the side. Both cars were demolished. Clark was the son of John Lawson Clark of Skidmore. His mother lives in Arkansas. He was born July 4, 1920, at Amy, Mo. Besides his father and mother, Clark leaves two brothers and four sisters: Raymond Clark, Skidmore; David Clark, Long Beach, Calif.; Misses Edna and Thelma Clark and Mrs. Marian Carroll, 122 East Jenkins, Maryville; Mrs. Floyd Debord, Hocomo, Mo. Classmates Pallbearers Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock this afternoon at the Price funeral home in Maryville. Rev. Fred Terry officiated. The burial was in the Oak Hill cemetery. Six of the youth's classmates served as pallbearers: Homer Dean Beverlin, Richard Worl, Harry Mitchell, Jr., Robert Mitchell, Gene Thompson and Donald Blackney, all of Skidmore."

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Hill Crest Christian church at South Fork, by the Rev. Earl Mustion of Arditta. Burial was made in the South Fork cemetery.\"

    Notes:

Name may have originally been Samuel Patton STORY, since that was a family name - since his father died when he was quite small, his mother may have imperfectlly remembered the middle name. Per Jack STORY.

May be buried at Fowler Cemetery, just off of highway 160 near Arditta. The Howell County Cemetery book lists an "S. T. Story" in that cemetery, with no dates or other data. The cemetery is listed roughly in the order of the grave, rather than alphabetically, which should have placed his stone near that of Vina Sharp, as well as a couple of other Story's. His stone does not appear in the cemetery, but there are a couple of places near where it should be that are empty. Possibly it crumbled. We cannot know with any certainty that this is where his grave is located, but it seems possible that his middle initial of "P." could have been misread as "T."

Grandma Hill [Mary Ward Hill] came and helped dress her and someone sat up 24 hours a day with the body. • RESEARCH: He emigrated Move from Tennessee to Osage County, Missouri about _____-_____-1843 from Osage County, Missouri. 331 Moved from Tennessee (Wilson or Smith Co?) to Missouri around 1843, based on birthplaces of children. They moved with Lydia\'s parents, John Anthony Ward and Lydia Vincent. Their son, George Thomas Clark always gave his birthplace as Tennessee, and he was born around 1842. His next sibling, Rebecca, was born around 1844, and always stated her birthplace as Missouri. The family was, therefore, likely to have arrived in Missouri about 1843. They may have followed the Drury Holland family from Smith County, TN. Drury Holland is found in the 1840 Smith Co TN census, where John Lawson Clark was found in the 1820 census; Isaac Clark (Carolina Clark\'s father) is found in neighboring White Co TN in 1840. After the move to Osage County, there were several marriages between the children of the two families. It is likely that there was a previous relationship, or at least friendship, between the families prior to the move, particularly since they moved at such an early date, before the later waves of emigrants from Tennessee.

One bit of information which I find interesting is she said that one researcher in Osage Co. said that John Lawson and his wife are most probably buried in unmarked graves in either the cemetery at Bailey Creek or New Providence. She stated that John helped found both churches.

    Notes:

I believe that Issareal CLARK in the 1860 census and Isaac CLARK in the 1880 census are one and the same. Their ages are close. They are both blacksmiths, they have children named the same, in the same order, although the ages are not precisely the same.

The child called "Emiline" in the 1860 Howell co MO census should undoubtedly be "Caroline." There are many such similar mistakes in the census transcription.

Interviews with Janet Cochran (417-284-3031) and her elderly mother, Mrs. Russell McCann (417-284-3534) who both live at Amy, Howell Co, MO. They descend from the BLACK line (and Nancy CLARK, dau of Isaac CLARK). They state that the Isaac CLARK family settled in Howell Co MO, but went back to Osage Co MO during the Civil War. Not very many families remained in the unstable and dangerous Howell Co at the time - perhaps fewer than 200. After the war, obviously they came back.

Identified elsewhere as "Sarah "Sallie" Anderson."

    However:

Daughter Martha's Kansas death certificate names her parents as "Isaak Clark" and "Sarrah Robinson," no birthplaces stated. Informant Zilla King or Kling (a daughter of Martha?)

Daughter Sally's 1934 Osage Co MO death cert names her parents as "Isaac Clark," no name for mother.

Daughter Zilla's 1941 Osage Co MO death cert names her parents as "Isac Clark" born Tennessee; and "Sallie Robertson" born Tennessee.

Daughter Nancy's 1912 Howell Co MO death cert names her parents as "Isaac Clark" and "Sallie Robison," no birth places given.

    Died:
Her husband remarried in 1875. It is reasonable to assume that Sallie died prior to this date.

    Notes:

    Married:
Presumption that they must have married prior to the birth of eldest child - presumption that she is that child's mother.

    Notes:

Charity appears in two census families in the 1850 census; once in Randolph Co IL with her parents and two of her VICKERS children; and once with her husband George Foster STORY in White Co IL. Oddly, her youngest VICKERS child, Mary age 6, appears in the George STORY home, while her old two VICKERS children, Eli and Clarinda, appear in the home of her parents. Possibly Charity was visiting her parents when she was enumerated with them on 27 Sept 1850, and had returned home to her husband by Oct of the same year, leaving her older children behind.
