    Notes:

Walter Lewis Warren b. 25-Jan-1881 son of James A. Warren and Elnora Parmenter was born in Ellis Co., Kansas. His siblings were Hiram Benjamin Warren and Sarah Elizabeth Warren (twins) born 22-Oct-1882 in Ellis Co. Kansas. His parents divorced in 1887. James remarried Anna Mary Treaster in 1888, Hays City, Kansas. James and Anna had two daughters, Mary Angeline and Irma Louise. This tells you of the 2nd and 3rd families. My grandfather was by the 1st marriage to Sarah B. Woods James A. abandoned the first family living in Missouri and went to Kansas were he met and married Walter's mother. (Like father like son.) Sarah died 16-Oct-1881 in Missouri. What is so ironic is that the first family always spoke of James A. being a doctor and went to treat sick Indians and never returned. (He was a medic in the Civil War for the North.) That story was believed until 5 years ago when I started my research. Some members of my family refuse to believe of the other two families, but I have many documents including Civil War pension records of James A. that spells it out clearly. He had to tell the truth to get a pension. We found the grave of James A. in Carthage, Missouri in the GAR section of the Cemetery. I didn't mean to write a book. If you want more dates let me know. • Can't locate WWI draft reg
    • Can't locate in 1920 census
    • 1930 census indicates that he first married age 39--did his wife know about his first marriage?
    • 1930 census indicates that he was a WWI veteran, but no record appears in his name? Another of his lies?

Conversation with Walter's granddaughter, Laurie (Mudge) Nelson of Troy, Idaho, on 22 November 2013.

This is the right Walter Warren. Walter had one daughter from his second marriage. That daughter, Vera Chapman (Warren) Mudge did not know until her mother was dying, long after Walter was dead, that Walter had been married before. When Vera was in her 80's she got a call from a Robert Warren, some relative of Walter's, and found out that his first wife, whom she now knew to be "Della," had three children by him. Vera, an only child, had never known that she had half-siblings out there. She was VERY upset by the information.

Vera said that what she learned of her father did NOT fit with the kind, loving father that she knew.

Laurie also said to call her older sister Nancy (whom I had tried to call the previous day).

Walter married Della Eveline Walker on 19 Dec 1901 in Howell County, Missouri, USA, and was divorced. Della (daughter of Thomas Newell "Tom" Walker and Phoebe Tennessee "Tennie" Crowder) was born on 4 Dec 1878 in Howell County, Missouri, USA; died on 18 Feb 1970 in Auburn, Placer County, California, USA; was buried in Walker Chapel Cemetery, Howell County, Missouri, USA. Notes:

    Divorced:
Divorce filed 16 December 1918 in Howell County, Missouri. Due to some technicality, the divorce was not finalized until 1944, as a part of the San Francisco U.S. Court's action restoring Della's citizenship. They finalized the divorce and back-dated it to 1918.
