    • Newspaper Article: 26 Dec 1918, Smith Center, Smith County, Kansas, USA; Will Bucklin a Suicide. "A telegram last night to George Bucklin of Washington township notified him of the suicide yesterday at Byers, Colo., of his father, George Bucklin. George took a train this morning for the scene. Over 25 years ago, Will Bucklin was quite a well known fellow in this city and vicinity. But he and his wife could not agree and after the separation Will went west, and afterwards remarried. His wife and three children still live in this county. The children are Mrs. Arch Wilson and George of this place, and John of Athol."
    • Obituary: After 30 Dec 1918, Smith Center, Smith County, Kansas, USA; Mother and Babe Both Dead Cliff Innes and four motherless children have the deep sympathy of our people in the bereavement that came to them Monday, through the death of Mrs. Innes and one of a pair of twin boys to whom she gave birth on that date. The other twin is alive as this is written. Mrs. Innes had been in failing health for some time, and her husband brought her back here from Sterling, Colo., about ten days ago in hopes that a lower altitude would help her, but childbirth proved too much for one in her weakened condition. Funeral services were held this forenoon and the bodies of the mother and babe in the same coffin were laid to rest in Fairview cemetery. Mrs. Innes, a daughter of Mrs. Will Bucklin of this city, was aged 30 years, 8 months and 6 days, and had lived practically all her life in Smith county. Besides her husband, children and mother she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Arch Wilson, and two brothers, George ofWashington township, and John, of Athol. Only last week we carried a news item about the suicide of their father, Will Bucklin, at Byers, Colo.
    • Newspaper Article: 2 Jan 1919, Smith Center, Smith County, Kansas, USA; William [sic] Bucklin a Suicide It is reported that William Bucklin killed himself recently at his home in Colorado. His sons, George and John, returned this morning, having gone there to attend the funeral.

    Notes:

    Birth:
Census data varies widely as to his age and calculated birth year. Most internet family trees give a date of 15 November 1863 for his birth. The Colton book gives the latter, as well.

Place of birth differs, as well. Often given as Hampden County, Massachusetts, but also seen as Iowa. His first two Kansas state census stated birthplace Iowa, as did his 1880 census in the home with his parents, offering an age of 16. It seems likely that he was born in Iowa.

His father's 1863 U.S. draft registration was in the 5th Congressional District of Iowa (representing 22 counties in the SW quadrant of Iowa), which supports his birth in Iowa.
