    Notes:

    Birth:
    While it is possible that Newton Canon Lasater was born outside of Dade County, his parents' and his own consistent presence in Newton County census beginning 1860 make it overwhelmingly likely that his birth was in Dade County.

    Died:
    Newton Lasater lived all of his life in Dade County and was buried there. While the circumstances and precise date of his death remain unknown, it is likely that his death occurred in Dade County.

    Newton married Ida Rogers on 29 Mar 1888 in Dade County, Missouri, USA. Ida was born in Oct 1870 in Missouri, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  1. 8.  Hardy Lasater was born in 1824 in North Carolina, USA (son of Cannon Lasater and Nancy Johnson); died in 1899 in Dade County, Missouri, USA; was buried in Collins Cemetery, Dade County, Missouri.

    Other Events:

    • Parents: Hardy's father is confirmed by two Dade County deed entries. The index to deeds, vol. 4 (1885-1887) lists Cannon Lasater, citing book 41:372, with a notation stating "see record for description and names of heirs." The deed itself at 41:372 is not explicit about it being the heirs of Cannon Lasater, but the notation above clarifies it. The deed is a quit claim executed in 1883 by "Hardy Lasater and S. C. Lasater his wife, Mary J. Tindell and William Tindell her husband, Sarah Purdy and Thomas Purdy her husband, Ann Clark and Christopher Clark her husband, Lucy Clayton and William Clayton her husband, and Hannah Springer, sold, of the County of Dade." They are quitting the described property in favor of William J. Lasater, also of Dade County. $90 consideration. These, then, were the surviving heirs of Cannon Lasater. Description: 30 acres, more or less, at the SE corner of the NE 1/4 of the SW 1/4 of Sec. 9, Township 31, Range 27W, bounded on one side by the "Greenfield and Fort Scott road."
    • Census: 20 Sep 1850, District 25, Dade County, Missouri, USA
    • Alt. Name: 1890, Dade County, MIssouri, USA;
      Allen Lasater married at age 19 in Dade County, Missouri, requiring the permission of his father who was named as "Hardin Lasater."

    Notes:

    6. _____, Lucy, 16, female, Tennessee
    7. _____, Ellen, 13, female, Tennessee
    8. Laster [Lasater], Hardy, 26, male, laborer, North Carolina

    It is commonly accepted that Hardy Lasater is the son of Canon and Nancy Lasater. However, his listing in this census sends up a tiny warning flag. Why was he not listed in birth order? His listing suggests to me that although this could have been an anomaly, the simple act of the census enumerator, it could also indicate another close relationship, such as nephew.
