Lebanon newspapers do not mention a wife for James Donald. Scotland does not record a marriage for James Donald in the July-October 1920 period. Possibly they weren't married? Possibly David sweet-talked her during their ship's passage? David went to live in Kansas City, rather than settling in Lebanon and was there in 1921, 1922, and 1926. His California death certificate indicated he had been in the state for 5 months.

    • Occupation: 1819, Dundee, Scotland;

    Notes:

    Died:
    The last known child of James Donald and Mary Corsar was born in 1819. In 1851, Mary Corsar was enumerated as a widow in the Dundee household of her son William Low Donald.

    A search of the Deaths in Old Parish Registers on ScotlandsPeople with first name "James" (and variants), surname "Don" (begins with, allowing for "Donnet," "Donelt," etc.), and Dundee parish, locates only one likely candidate:
    James "Donnat," died 31 August 1832, Dundee parish, age 69, occupation "weaver Blacks croft," born in Dundee, number of stone and cutter "1269B," cause of death "old Age," hospital dues "[0], 2, [0]" [two shillings?] Birth year calculates to 1763. This is somewhat earlier than one might expect, as his wife was born about 1787. It remains a possibility, particularly in light of other documents for him, and his son William, that state the name as "Donnet" or "Donelt" instead of "Donald."

    Another candidate is James "Donet," who died 5 July 1825, Dundee. [O.P.R. Deaths 282/00 0250 0246 Dundee]. Entry 591, James Donet, age 59? 39? weaver, born "Panbride." See Donald images.

    James married Mary Corsar on 22 Oct 1810 in Dundee Parish, Dundee, Angus, Scotland. Mary (daughter of David Corsar and Margaret Durham) was christened on 8 Apr 1787 in Mains and Strathmartine Parish, Angus, Scotland; died on 18 Nov 1858 in 31 Union Street, Maxwelltown, Dundee, Scotland; was buried in Mains Old Church. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 9.  Mary Corsar was christened on 8 Apr 1787 in Mains and Strathmartine Parish, Angus, Scotland (daughter of David Corsar and Margaret Durham); died on 18 Nov 1858 in 31 Union Street, Maxwelltown, Dundee, Scotland; was buried in Mains Old Church.

    Other Events:

    • Note:
      Mary (Corsar) Donald's parents are listed on her death certificate as James Corsar and Jean Durham. The informant was her son William. No marriage can be found in the Old Parish Records for a James Corsar and Jean Durham. There is, however, a birth of Mary Corsar to David Corsar and Isobel Durham, and there is a marriage of David Corsar to Margaret Durham. While this is confusing, it seems likely that David Corsar married Margaret Durham, sometimes known as Isobel Durham; that Mary Corsar was their daughter; and that the informant for the death certificate was in error.
