511 6 of Vincent and Phebe Tidwell's children served the Confederacy.

Jane Eveline Tidwell would have been abt 18 at the time of the 1840 census, and she is not reflected in the household. It is my guess that she may have already married William Tacker. I have written to the Tennessee State Library and Archives to ask them to check the published record of TN marriages prior to 1861, which they will do with no fee.

The family must have moved back to Illinois very shortly after the time of the 1860 Iron Co MO census, since Martha is age 10 in the 1870 census, and was born in Illinois.

So Aley and Link were Libby's great grandparents. It was sent by Libby to Debord/Deboard researcher Hurshel Debord. A James C. Walker was buried at Wayne Cemetery, Dorchester, Macoupin County; his stone offers the death date as "July 4, 1891" and although it does not offer a birth date it states that he was age 24, calculating to an approximate birth year of 1867.
  • A James Walker appears as the son of Samuel and Eliza A. (Ward) Walker in the 1880 Macoupin County census. He was age 12, calculating to a birth year of 1868

  • The Macoupin County probate index has an entry for the estate of James C. Walker, administratrix Eliza A. Walker. While no specific date is attached to the record, the page is headed "1888" indicating that the estate was processed after 1888, in the natural sequence of "W" estates and probates

  • Wayne Cemetery is where Stephen/Steven A. Sutton, the first husband of Samuel and Eliza's daughter Sarah, was buried.

  • In the 1900 Macoupin Co census enumeration Eliza is recorded as having borne 6 children, 5 of whom were living. Sarah, Jacob, and Jonathan/John were known to be living after 1910, leaving only Mary, Frank, and James as the possibly deceased child.
It is probable that the James C. Walker who died 4 July 1891 was James Walker, the son of Samuel and Eliza A. (Ward) Walker.

Why, when Elijah had so many children, was the estate administered by Stephen Fielder? It would have been unusual for a daughter to administer.

Of his sons, Helton Rutherford had moved to Missouri a few months earlier; William K. lived in San Joaquin County, California; Levi lived in Illinois, James L. had died in the Civil War, George Neal died in 1867; Calvin M. and Arch were living in the area, but were age 24 and 22, possibly a little young to be expected to administer the estate; Jacob had probably already left home due to mysterious trouble and may have been in Arkansas; Alonzo Denson was underage. Elijah's eldest son, often believe by many to be "James Monroe Walker" was actually John M. Walker--and living out of the state in White Co ARK (he died just a year later).

  • Sadie's 1900 San Francisco County enumeration indicates her birth in August 1870, in New Jersey.
  • Sadie's 1910 San Joaquin County enumeration indicates that she was age 41, calculating to an approximate birth year of about 1869, also in New Jersey.
  • The record of Sadie's burial at Stockton Rural Cemetery after her death on 20 January 1915, indicates her age at death as 42, calculating to a birth year of about 1873. This date, however, was in error, as the official death register lists her death as the same day, but in 1913.
  • Sadie's death certificate states her age as 42 and her birth year as 1871.

A Mrs. Angeline Spence married Peter Williams in Adams County and they are enumerated in 1880 Adams County with step-sons John and Charles. John and Charles are of the right age to be the sons of Mary (Walker) Spence and Angeline Williams was Mrs. Angeline Spence when she was married and her birth year was the same as that of Mary (Walker) Spence.

However, subsequent research indicates that these are coincidences and this family is not the second family of Mary (Walker) Spence.
