A "Willis C. Tull" served with the 1st KY Cav. (Woodward), organized in the summer of 1861; due to arduous Kentucky service in September-October 1862, it was assigned to other regiments, particularly the 3rd KY. Cav.

A "W. C. Tull" served with the 2nd KY Cav., organized in December 1862, and served in the Army of Tennessee.

However, since Woodward was at the head of the 2nd Cav., and since he was present with the 1st Cavalry in which a "Willis C. Tull" served, it seems likely that W. C. Tull and Willis C. Tull were the same individual.

Was this individual the husband of Margaret M. Walker? His presence in Tennessee battles indicates that it is possible.

A New York Times article published on his death in 1906 ("Dean of Speculators, Edward B. Wesley Dies," 4 October 1906) states that Edward B. Wesley was born in January 1811, in Leicester, Worcester County, Massachusetts--which information must have been supplied to them by family or in other written materials on Wesley.

Additionally, there is a birth record for an Edward "Barnes" Wesley, born 11 January 1811, in Leicester, Worcester County, Massachusetts, on FamilySearch. No digital image is available. The parents were recorded as Alexander and Mary Wesley.

A biography of his father Daniel B. Sawyer states that John was the oldest. His birth year has been estimated from their marriage date of 1834.

However, 1850 census states John's age as 13, calculating to about 1837 birth. 1836 may be about right.

A James Burke died at the East Kentucky Asylum in Covington on 7 April 1900, and was buried at St. Patrick's. He was born in Cincinnati to Patrick and Mary Burke, who were both born in Ireland. Found in the Kentucky Death Records, 1852-1953, Ancestry.com

A James H. Walker estate was probated in Macoupin County, 1872 (Probate Index A). The administratrix was Mary Walker. Supporting the likelihood that this James H. was the James Walker born in 1818 who married Mary Bentley is:
  • Name of administratrix, "Mary Walker"
  • Marriage of Mrs. Mary Walker to Samuel S. Drake in 1876 Macoupin County
  • Mary's enumeration in 1880 Madison County, Illinois, in the Samuel Drake household records her age as 55, calculating to a birth year of 1825, the same as the Mary (Bentley) Walker, wife of James Walker
  • Present in the 1880 census household of Samuel and Mary Drake was James [P? C?] Walker, age 21, "step son." This age corresponds closely to the age of apparent son James C. found in the 1870 census of James and Mary (Bentley) Walker.

A letter written by Samuel A. Walker's granddaughter states that Harriet Ann Walker married a man named Williams, "he died" a year or so later. The "he" is probably a typographic error in the typescript, as Harriet Ann Walker Williams' cemetery marker in Rock Island County, Illinois, shows that she died in April 1855, about a year after her marriage.

The letter from a granddaughter, rendered as typescript, was published in the newspaper around 1936. In it she stated that Harriet's son "grew up and married and died about forty years ago," leaving a wife and two children. The letter went on to say that his widow remarried and the family had lost track of them.

A Luther D. Walker is found in the Zion area of Izard County for his WWI draft registration--the same place that Ewell Oscar Walker was registered for the draft. However, while Ewell Oscar's birthdate conformed to his 1900 census data, that of Luther D. Walker indicted his birth in 1885--7 years earlier.

A Luther D. Walker is found in the 1930 Izard Co census, married to Ethel M., and with a calculated birth year of 1887. Both the WWI draft reg and a marriage record identify this as the same Luther D. Walker, married to Myrtle Ethel Taylor. Everything points to an 1885 (or thereabouts) birth--unlikely to have been confused in 1900 by so much and so specifically.

Finally, Luther D. Walker and his wife have a headstone at Pea Ridge Cemetery in Benton County. It gives Luther D.'s birthdate as 11 May 1885, whereas the subject Luther Walker's birth (in the 1900 census) was May 1892.

Additionally, Luther D's 1930 census states that both of his parents were born in Arkansas.

Luther D. Walker (husband of Ethel) died in 1965 and his headstone is in Pea Ridge.

There is a Luther Walker listed as a burial in LaCrosse Cemetery in Izard County where Jacob and Mary Walker are buried. Though it offers no dates for birth or death, it appears likely that these are two different Luther Walkers, both residing in Izard County, and within 8 years of being the same age.

A Samuel A. Walker appears on the 1812 tax list for Humphreys County, Tennessee. It is likely that this is the Samuel A. Walker who was a likely sibling of Archalaus, Jacob, Elijah, and George H. Walker.

A search of Tennessee marriages (Ancestry.com) has failed to locate the marriage of a Thomas Adams to a "Turner" or "R*th*" or to any name that might appear to be "Ritha" --excepting Ruth. None of the locations and dates seemed likely to be the right person.

Arkansas marriage databases on FamilySearch were also search with varying search terms, with no success.

William T. Adams (son of the 1850 household) is still in Dallas County in 1880.

Ritha and Thomas Adams are both absent from the 1860 Dallas County census, nor have they been located elsewhere. They may have both died between 1850 and 1860.

A Theodosia E. Walker is found marrying Stephen B. Byrd in White County, Arkansas on 23 September 1880. An Ancestry record also records Theodosia Cassandra Walker as marrying Steve Burtis Byrd, and states that her parents were John Manley Walker and Rachel Barnett.

Cassandra is the middle name of J. M. Walker's younger sister (Sarah Cassandra "Cassie" Walker Lasater).

A. Walker household
1 male of 50 and under 60 [Samuel Walker, age 55]
3 females of 5 and under 10 [Julia age 4, Sarah, age 10, Julia age 7]
1 female of 10 and under 15 [Harriet, age 13]
1 female of 30 and under 40 [Nancy (Thompson) Walker, age 35]

[While this may not be the Samuel A. Walker household, its makeup is nearly perfect--the only "off" is Julia about 4 in the 5-10 column, which could have been an error and is very close. The bio of their daughter Eliza (Walker) Paul places them in Rock County around this period.]
Walker, Samuel Allen (I4196)

Aaron Sawyer's probate record (appt of administratrix in March 1880) lists his surviving children, including "Nancy Sawyer." This serves to confirm that the Nancy Walker who married Warren Sawyer in 1863 was the daughter of Aaron Walker.

According to son George F.'s entry in the California death index his mother's maiden name was "Salem." This is probably an erroneous transcription of "Flynn." Capital F's and S's can look quite similar, and a double n could look like an m. There is an "L" in the middle of both of them.

Additional children listed in his son's obituary, this page. I believe since his name was Billy Ray, and clearly he was born in 1930, the year of Patrick's second marriage, that the Billy Oren Walker named as a brother must have been the child of Patrick's first brief marriage. The others listed are probably the children of his second wife, Lola Mae Kizer.

Age in 1850 census appears to be 30, but may be 36, which would again come out to approximately 1814 for birth. 1850 census gives Canada as his birthplace, while the 1860 gives New York. 1855 census also gives Canada as his birthplace. It seems likely that the earlier census is correct on this point.

Alice (Purdy) Lasater's death certificate names her parents as Alec Purdy and Cellie Purdy. It is possible that the informant for the certificate did not know Cellie's maiden name, or it is possible that Cellie and Alec were cousins.

Alice is not found after the 1900 census. She may have died between 1900 and 1904, as her husband Luther Simpson married again about 1904. It is possible that she divorced.

Also in District 5 are four other Tacker households (Seaborn, John, Joseph, Joshua), two of them with acreage (John and Joshua). Joshua has the most acreage (554 acres) and is the only one not paying a white poll, which may indicate that he is the eldest and is exempt from the poll (check age in law).

Also in District 5 is Vincent Tidwell, with 1 white poll and 86 acres.

The William with one white poll and no acreage may be the individual that married Jane Eveline Tidwell, a daughter of Vincent, possibly about 1838.
