As told by their granddaughter, Pat Simmons:
"Doc and Dosh moved from Missouri to a farm, located in Payne County, Oklahoma, which had been claimed on September 16, 1893, in the Oklahoma Land Run. Mr. William Burch, riding a mule, entered the race and staked claim to the farm two and one-half miles south of Glencoe. He first build a sod house, then a temporary frame one, and finally in about 1897, a more permanent one-story frame structure. In the early 1900's Mr. Burch sold the farm to Allen Bowen, who added a two-story addition. Then in 1912 Mr. Bowen traded the farm and house to A. W. Stokes for $500 and A. W.'s farm in Mt. View, Missouri. After the Stokes family moved to the farm, it became known as 'The Stokes Place.' " | Walker, Eudocia Josephine "Docia" (I3439)
