Daughter Jane Ann (Gilmore) Hurlbert's death certificate named her parents as "Thomas Gilmour" and "Mary Reed," both born in Ireland.

Son Thomas Gilmore's 1863 marriage to Charlotte Armstrong named his parents as "Tomas Gilmore" and "Maria Reed." 

Daughter Julia's death certificate indicates that he was born in Madison County, Illinois. However, it said the same about her mother, Elizabeth Chowning, who was actually born in Tennessee, so the informant may not have been knowledgeable. 

Daughter Julia's death certificate names her as Mary Walker. However, Illinois marriage records show George Teter marrying Elizabeth Walker in 1848, Madison County. The 1850 census for wife of George Teter is consistent with that name.

 

Daughter Martha A. (Chandler) Blevins' 1941 West Virginia death registration offers her mother's maiden name as "Eveline George." 

Daughter Sarah's 1925 Lewis County, Washington, marriage record names her parents as Amos Music and Martha Steltner. 

Day of birth calculated from obituary stating that he died 4 April 1939 at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 1 day. This date agrees with the broader 1900 census data offering November 1870 as his birth date.

A friend found your Home page on line and passed it on to me. She knew I was seeking information on Elijah Walker. I feel sure this is the same family that we are related to. I have lots more information on the families.
It was our understanding that Elijah came from Scotland and he went into Tennessee (Dickson Co, Maury, etc).
Names and dates for Elijah Jr's children were recorded in the old Gaelic language family Bible which Archie Walker bought at a sale of one of his relatives. The Bible was passed down through Oce Ola Walker to his daughter, Mary Esther Walker Baily who still has it. Esther is my Aunt.

Death cert of son Augustus actually names her as Alice "Greerson." 

Death certificate calculates to a birth year of 1837. However, the 1850 census is probably closer to her correct age and calculated birth year of 1840. 

Death certificate does not offer birthdate, just age of 81, calculating to birth year of 1843.

Cause of death: Lobar pneumonia 

Death certificate indicates "Olden County, Tennessee" as his place of birth. There is, however, no Olden County in Tennessee. 

Death certificate indicates burial at Cross Creek Cemetery, presumably in Cumberland County, North Carolina. 

Death certificate indicates Ohio as place of birth. The 1900 census indicates Indiana and the 1910 indicates Michigan. 

Death certificate names her as "Meta E. Smith," daughter of "Jim Phipps" and "Mattie Walker," both born in Missouri. 

Death certificate names her only as "Mrs. T. E. Byrd." 1940 census names her as "Della Byrd." Son Curtis's death cert names her as "Allie D. Walker." 

Death certificate names her only as Dora J.  

Death certificate of eldest daughter Martha E. Walker state's that Mary F. Harmon/Herman was born in Giles County, Tennessee. Mary's census enumerations, however, indicate her birth in Alabama. 

Death certificate of Finis Harrison Hartley and James Edward Hartley identified their parents as Asa M. Hartley and Emma Worley. 

Death certificate offers an estimated birth year of 1874, but the 1880 census is judged to be closer to the right birth year. 

Death certificate records her as "Mary E. Smith," the only known instance of "E" as a middle initial--probably recorded in error. 

Death certificate stated birth as 1861. 

Death due to typhoid fever, illness of 36 days. 

Death index calculated his death to about 1858, almost certainly in error. 

Death was the result of a stroke that occurred when the family home caught on fire. 

Deed states that the acreage was ". . . the undivided share of the above quarter belonging to the party of the first part heirs to the estate of N. Hall deceased." 

Deliant Cemetery 

Della's cemetery marker at Walker Chapel states her year of birth as 1877, but it was actually 1878. The day and month are correct. 

Descendant Josephine H. Jones offers a marriage date of 9 September 1823, but no place of marriage. 

Descendant Lee Lallier (DNA) places her death at 1859. However, this is inconsistent with the number of children listed for her in the letter written by Samuel Allen Walker's granddaughter.

However, she is probably the "J. F. Pitman" (female) appearing immediately after John H. Pitman in the 1875 Marshall County, Kansas, state census, age 42, calculating to a birth date of about 1833, born in Illinois.

In 1880, John H. Pitman is enumerated with his children, as a widower. 

Descendant record of Robert M. George and Patsy Porter (see citation) indicates that their daughter Jane George married Jeffrey Jefferson John Brown on this date. The birth record of William Lindsey Brown on 4 May 1854 (see citation) supports this data, naming his parents as Jeffrey Brown and Jane George, and implying their marriage prior to his birthdate. 

Described as a cemetery on the Elmer Zachry farm, about five miles Southwest of Carlyle. 

Despite the fact that so many databases name him as "James M. Walker," it begins to appear that the John M. Walker found in the 1850 Marshall County, Mississippi, census, who married Rachel D. Barnett, and who is later found in White County, Arkansas--could be the same man as the "J. M. Walker" listed as the eldest son of Elijah Walker and his first wife, Matilda.

The name "James M. Walker" may have come from the Charles Bowen typescript, which contains many errors (as well as much good information) and is not sourced.

In favor of this:

• Both the Collins Walker and the McMillan Gaelic Bible list him only as "J. M. Walker," with a birthdate of 18 September 1824.
  
• Marshall County, Mississippi, where he was found in 1850, was the county where Elijah's elder brother George H. resided from abt 1834 until his death after 1870. The two were enumerated on the same page. On the previous page of the same census was "R. Walker," an apparent laborer--possibly Helton Rutherford Walker, who is not found in Tennessee in 1850
  
• John M. and Rachel D. (Barnett) Walker are found in the 1870 White County, Ark, census. Rachel's parents, Zimmer and Emeline Barnett are found there as well. All four are buried in the Center Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
  
• The birth date given on John M. Walker's stone in the Center Hill Baptist Church is 18 September 1824--the same as the birthdate given for J. M. Walker in the Walker Bibles
  

This would seem to be a strong indication that the identities of James Monroe Walker from the Walker Bibles and John M. Walker who married Rachel D. Barnett can be merged.

Digital image of marriage license and return difficult to read. It is certainly March 1909, and probably the fourteenth--definitely something ending in "eenth." 

Directory listed Joe's occupation as "car repr." [Car repair.] 

Divorce filed 16 December 1918 in Howell County, Missouri. Due to some technicality, the divorce was not finalized until 1944, as a part of the San Francisco U.S. Court's action restoring Della's citizenship. They finalized the divorce and back-dated it to 1918. 

Divorced in 1961. 

Doc Stokes' obituary (posted by Pat Stokes on his FindAGrave entry) states their marriage date as 30 July 1876. It was not recorded until 15 November 1876, so it is possible that T. C. Bolerjack, the J.P. who performed the marriage, may have made an error.
