Marriage license stated his age as 31 and place of birth as Australia. 

Marriage license was issued under the name "Miss Maude E. Phelps." Death certificate indicates that her father was Edward Roper and her mother was Electa Phelps.

In 1900 she was enumerated in Howell County in the household of Edward Phelps, as a granddaughter. An Electa Phelps appears as the daughter of Edward Phelps in the 1880 census.

Since Maude was born in 1889 or 1890, her birth should have been recorded in the 1883-1893 birth and death records, but it is not found under either Roper nor Phelps. A June 1897 marriage is recorded in Howell County between Electa A. Phelps and Seth Roper. Presumably, then, Maude was the child of these two people. Perhaps since she was being raised by her grandparents in the 1900 census, she went by their surname.

Her father as "Edward" Roper on her death certificate may be accounted for by confusion with the grandfather who raised her, Edward Phelps, and her stepfather, Seth Roper.

The Family TreeMaker website of Phyllis N. Parli (Perry, OK), cites the Bible of Edward Dwight Phelps (Maude's father), which includes Maude's date of birth (23 July 1889, Mountain View, Howell County) and her mother's date of birth: Electa Elora Phelps, 30 June 1868). It also lists Electa's marriage to Seth Roper on 9 June 1897, and Electa's death on 25 August 1905, of consumption.

Seth Roper and wife "Lectie" Roper are found in the 1900 census in Goldsberry township of Howell County, married 4 years. It is not known why Maude is not with them--but she was probably not the child of Seth Roper since they did not marry until 1897.
 

Marriage records her as "S. Ludy Pewitt" but subsequent records seem to indicate her first name was "Saludy" [Saluda?]. 

Married 61 years. 

Married and had two children. 

Married by Henry Hopkins, minister of the Congregational Church. License issued 19 May 1889. 

Married by Hudson Dudley, a magistrate in Hickman County. 

Married name at her death. 

Married name may have been "Yearby" or "Yerby" rather than the "Yeby" recorded on her marriage record. Yearby and Yerby individuals were buried at Center Hill Baptist Church where Clara A.'s parents were married. 

Married on 7 April, filed 11 June 1870. 

Married on the last day of 1866, recorded in the 1867 register. 

Married, but had no children. Was living on a fruit farm in California. 

Martha died at home, of "malarial hemaeturia." 

Martha J. Walker and Edwin Clark were first cousins. Martha J. was the daughter of Edward Marion Walker and Edwin was the son of Marian Dorcas (Walker) Clark. Both Edward Marion Walker and Dorcas Marian (Walker) Clark were the children of Jacob Walker and Martha Spence. 

Marvin served as a Technician, Fourth Class. He was awarded the Purple Heart. 

Mary (Sawyer) Walker probably died between her 1870 enumeration in Macoupin County and her husband's second marriage in 1875. She may have died in either Illinois or Missouri. 

Mary and Asa appear to have had no issue. 

Mary Ann "Polly" George was first married to a Gray/Grey. After her second marriage to Elisha Meadows, she is found in the 1850 census. In the household is a Joseph Grey, age 22 and a Jane Grey, age 17. Joseph would have been born about 1828, a little earlier than I had postulated Polly's marriage, but she would have been 21, so it is certainly possible. Relationshps are not specified in the 1850 census, so Jane could have been either her daughter, born about 1833--or Joseph's wife, living in the household.

Joseph could also have been some other Grey/Gray relative. It seems likely, however, that he was a son and that Jane was a daughter. 

Mary Ann Elizabeth "Bettie" Matthews 

Mary appeared in the 1880 enumeration as "Mary C." and her death certificate names her as "Mary Quntine."

Mary died at a cancer hospital in St. Joseph, though she was still a resident of Gentry County. She died of rectal cancer and fibroid uterine tumors. 

Mary died at her home in Tingley, Iowa, after a lingering illness. 

Mary E. Bogue was the step-daughter of Edward's older brother, Anthony Green Walker; she was the daughter of Harriet (Friend) Bogue Walker. 

Mary Elizabeth did not marry and had no known issue.
 

Mary may be the Mary E. Johnson who married William White on 4 September 1885 in Wise County, Texas. 

Mary was in her parents' home in the 1860 census. In 1870 she is head of household, probably widowed but possibly divorced, with a son born about 1866. 

Mary's 1900 census entry as Mary J. Grady confirms this as her likely marriage.

Mary appears to be known as Mary J. Hunt for the remainder of her life. Could this have been a brief marriage after which she returned to the name of Hunt? 

Mary's 1926 death certificate states that she is "about 70," calculating to a birth year of 1956. The informant was her son Cleveland K. Walker, but this information was clearly in error. 

Mary's maiden name is assumed to be Owens, as her mother, Agnes Owens, was living in their 1940 census household. 

Mary's marital status on her death cert was "married," not "widowed." 

Matilda Catherine's birth data is inconsistent.

It is likely that she was born between 1836-1838. 

Matilda's last name is often given as McMurry/McMurray. I have never found any documentation for this, other than the presence of others by that name in the county.

However, a Sullivan County, Tennessee, document (series of documents) makes it clear that her name was Matilda King.

 

May be the Jasper L. Franklin who last resided in Houston, Harris County, Texas, and died there 13 February 2000. Born 4 July 1923. Obtained his SSN in Kentucky before 1951. SS no. 406-16-8338. 

May E. (Smith) Hoop's family was enumerated without her in 1940, in Oregon. Her husband Charles is enumerated as "divorced," though his 1958 Josephine County death certificate names his wife as "Mae Hoop."

An interview with Bonnie Compton (descendant of Mary C. Walker's brother Helton Alanson Walker) indicated that May also married Clarence Allen Venable, but with no information as to when or where. Were Charles and May divorced? Clarence A. Venable was a married near neighbor to Charles and May in the 1910 Barton Co MO census. Did may return to Missouri from California or Oregon? Were they divorced and she married a possibly widowed Clarence Venable? The same interview indicated May's death in Barton County in 1973.

May have died in 1844, and may be buried in the O'Ferrell Cemetery, off of Highway 48 in Dickson County. This would be the right area for the burial of a Walker wife. Also, Calvin Walker's third wife was a Ferrell or O'Ferrell. 

May have died in his youth, as he does not appear in the 1880 census with his family. 

May have died in Linn, Osage County, Missouri, since that is listed as her final place of residence--though buried in Howell County. 

May have died in October 1870. 

May have divorced prior to 1920, when William Jasper Lasater is enumerated as divorced. They were buried, together, however, so their marital status remains unclear. 

May have married Isaac Lowrance, and reside in 1943 in Coryell County. Her brother Hobson's 1943 obituary named surviving sister "Mrs. Isaac Lowrence of Uvalde." 

Mentioned more than once in pension affidavits, her first name is illegible in some places, but is clearly stated as Levinia Dean. 

Middle initial may be A or O (from 1880 census) 

Middle name "Vadalia" from the numbered genealogy provided by Josephine H. Jones. I have also seen this as "Vandalia." 

Middle name Calvin came from Iva (DeBoard) Welch, a daughter of John Calvin DeBoard and granddaughter of Iva Gerome DeBaord.

She wrote to someone in Mtn View about Iva Gerome, requesting info. Was born in 1918, and her letter was written in June 2000.

Middle name is given as "Jayhue" in the affidavit of Neoma Shuster, midwife attending his birth, in Rhoda's pension file.
