2606 Wichita Eagle, 14 July 1885, p. 4:

"THE SAD DEATH OF LITTLE MARK GARRETT.

Little Mark, the oldest child of J. J. & Clara Garrett, in going into the stable on Sunday afternoon, was kicked in the stomach by a horse, from which he died yesterday afternoon at 5:30. The animal seems to have been quiet ordinarily, and must have been surprised into kicking. The dear little fellow lingered in great agony until the silent messenger relieved him of his pain."

2621 A Margaret A. BRADFORD, age 39 b MO is found in the 1870 Phelps Co MO census. She is residing in the home of Daniel and Sarah LENOX, who are in their early 20's. With Margaret BRADFORD are Martha F. age 13 and John B. age 11, presumably her children. This would indicate that she might be widowed, divorced, or deserted. Possibly she is the Margaret BRADFORD who married Isaac CLARK? Bradford, Margaret (I1281)

2622 A Montgomery family lives quite near them in the 1880 census - possibly her father. Montgomery, Margaret C. (I2875)

2624 A search for the given name "Lydia" (and similar, as in Lydie, etc.) finds only one of the approximate right age and right birth state.

A marriage record is found for "L. A. Brown" to G. W. OBryant, 16 Dec 1853. [This entry is indexed on Ancestry as "S. A. Brown," but an examination of other entries on the page confirms that it is "L. A."]

Could Lydia have been briefly married previously? Living in the home with them is Malinda C. Brown--but if that is Lydia's child, Malinda was born when Lydia was about 11. Could Malinda be the child of Lydia's first husband, and not her child?

G. W. OBriant enlisted in the 48th Tennessee (Nixon's), from Lawrence County. His record, briefly examined, appears to include desertion and capture, but it is not clear if the capture is by the Union forces because he was a Confederate or by the Confederate forces for desertion.

None of the family has been located in the 1870 census. G. W. may not have survived the war, and Lydia may have married again. The spelling of the name is problematical, as well. O'Bryant, Obryant, Obriant, etc., making searches difficult.

Searched for each of the children's names in 1870 census for Lawrence County, for neighboring counties, and for neighboring states, with no success. Also searched their names, birth year, and birth state in the general search on the opening page of Ancestry. Nothing forthcoming.

CON: FindAGrave entry for Lydia offers her maiden name as "Brown." Is that just from the marriage document? Was it really Brown?
Crowder, Lydia (I425)

2633 Adolphus was probably uncertain of his birth year, which fluctuate from census to census and is certainly wrong on his death certificate--he was older than age 67,

Hayden History, written by Mary Hayden Houck Retyped from the original 1928 document by Vicky Lynn Bankey, Lakewood, Colorado, from a copy in her family. Her additions are noted in parentheses, followed by vlb. No supporting documentation for any facts noted in this report were included) Original note reads: (This was read at the Hayden Reunion held at Olympia Park, McKeesport, Pa., August 1, 1928. Mr. And Mrs. David L. Houck, Pitcairn, Pa, will be glad to give any information they have ) ***** Samuel and Priscilla Hayden seemed to follow in the footsteps of his parents, for they, also, had nine children. The eighth child was Nathaniel our ancestor, who was born February 21, 1725, and the ninth child was William, born October 5, 1727, ancestor of the Uniontown (Pa., vlb) Haydens. In 1745, Samuel and Priscilla moved to Basking Ridge, near Morristown, New Jersey, taking with them all of the famile except two, who married and remained in Braintree. So far we have found further records of but three of these children who came to New Jersey, - first, Christopher, of whom W.S. Hayden of Cleveland is a descendant: second, William, the youngest son, of whom there are many known descendants, among them being Chas. Hayden of Chicago, Mrs. Davis of Mass., and Mrs. McKinnon of New York City and all of the Uniontown Haydens; and third, our own Nathaniel. He married Zervia Sutton of Basking Ridge, N.J. We have found little of their life in New Jersey, but were told at the Congressional Library in Washington, D.C. that many of the old records of that state were destroyed when the Capital was burned in the War of 1812. The next record we find of them is in Rostraver Twp., Westmoreland County, Penna., with one son, Nathaniel. We have learned that some Haydens were early in Kentucky and Virginia, but have not found the name Nathaniel there, though we have as yet, by no means, exhausted all the records. There is a possibility that our Nathaniel may have been in those states before coming to Western Penna. We hope to continue our research work and may find some new data in the coming months. However, the next date of which we have a record was found in the Library at Harrisburg, the founding of Salem Church in 1792 [Rostraver Twp, Westmoreland County, Penna - vlb]. There are but three churches in the western part of the state that antedate it. It was constituted 19 years before the First Baptist Church of Pittsburg. One of its founders was Nathaniel Hayden. The first persons baptized were Joseph Budd and Wife, and Nathaniel Hayden and wife.

Then, too, we have searched back to the earliest records in Greensburg which was in 1773, when Westmoreland County was formed. There is recorded no will of Nathaniel Hayden, Sr., who died in 1812, and no transfer of property, so one would conclude he had nothing. On an old family Bible owned by Mrs. Starkamp of McKeesport, we found some data which stated that Nathaniel, Sr., had owned valuable land in New Jersey which he sold, receiving in payment Continental Money, which he next day discovered was worthless. This transaction financially ruined him. This is evidently family tradition, and no doubt true, but we are able to find public record of it. Nathaniel Hayden, Sr., died in 1812 and with his wife, Zervia, is buried in Salem Cemetery beside his son Nathaniel and his wife who was Abagail (probably Abigail - vlb) Osborn.

2646 Age in May 1841, marriage, stated as 22. Pratt, Josiah (I168)

2647 Age likely a typo, as he would have been 11, and a 1-year-old would not have been swimming.

2650 Aley apparently could not get along with anyone for long. She married John J. Hope, who was a pastor, and had previously sustained a marriage of twenty years, and several children. He apparently separated from Aley sometime between 1900 and 1910, and information that I found online indicates that he died in Hidalgo county, TX in 1925. Hope, John J. (I831)
