Although I have a note stating that he was a school teacher, the 1920 and 1930 census reflect that he was a farmer. However, the 1910 census shows him as unemployed and in school, so he may have achieved some higher education and taught for a while.

Although Martha Jane's death cert states birth in Missouri, the 1860, 1870, and 1880 census records all state her birth in Arkansas (ages 5, 15, and 25) Additionally, her younger brother Luther B. was born in Arkansas, while other siblings are listed with Missouri birth.

It seems likely that her death cert is in error.

Although the Howell Co Cemeteries book says next to Johnnie's name "(son of J. W. & A)", by the dates he was actually the son of Margaret D. Crowder (first wife). She died about two and a half weeks after his birth, no doubt of complications arising from the birth.

I also paged through the 1948 marriages and have not found it.

Although we do not know who this James T. CROWDER is, he was married to Bertha ROBBINS. There a number of ROBBINS' buried at Walker Chapel Cemetery, where B.A. and Jane CROWDER are buried. He is more than likely related in some manner.

An Elijah HAYDEN is found in the 32nd Infantry, Co F, enlisted from Hardin Co IA, age 32, enlisted Aug 1862, which would make his birth year around 1830. That would make him to young to be this Elijah - but too old to be his son! Probably related somehow. He apparently survived the war, so his military record might offer something of interest.
