2901 Census narrows his birth to between 1784-1804
Cemetery marker offers date
Johnson, William (I5972)

2902 Census possibility 1790 Northumberland Co PA (later Union, present-day Snyder) George ROUSH 1 m over 16 5 m under 16 2 females

This fits what we know of his family fairly well. According to the "Roush Family in America", John George Roush would have had at this time 4 sons (George, Andrews, Phillip, John) all under 16, and one daughter, Margaret. The only discrepancy, then, is one additional son listed in ce census. Since we show a number of children born very quickly, and then none from 1785 - 1791 it is likely that there were some babies who didn't survive. I consider this a good possibility.

2907 Charity appears in two census families in the 1850 census; once in Randolph Co IL with her parents and two of her VICKERS children; and once with her husband George Foster STORY in White Co IL. Oddly, her youngest VICKERS child, Mary age 6, appears in the George STORY home, while her old two VICKERS children, Eli and Clarinda, appear in the home of her parents. Possibly Charity was visiting her parents when she was enumerated with them on 27 Sept 1850, and had returned home to her husband by Oct of the same year, leaving her older children behind. Adams, Charity (I2693)

2908 Charles A. Lee to Margaret Deboard 12 april 1900 by S. N. Hudson. Family (F240)

2909 Charles and Kate's divorce record (newspaper) mentions her "custody of children" implying more than one.

The 1880 census names her as "Ora," but the G. F. McSorley tree on Ancestry names the second daughter as "Ara Dell Gilmore," born about 1876. [Ara's sister Harriet married a McSorley, so this is likely a descendant].

The 1891 and 1895 Alpena, Michigan, directories name her "Miss Ara D. Gilmore."

Her marriage index record names her (or is transcribed as) "Ora Dell Gilmore."

It is worth noting the fifth person found in the 1880 Charles Gilmore household, "Anna Duell," age 18, servant. Similar to "Ana Dell."

Gilmore, Ara Dell (I537)

2910 Charlotte's death registration names her mother as "Irene Spore." Spore, Irena (I129)

2911 Child in their home at time of 1860 census: S. A. DOUGLASS, 1/12? This was an unreliable look-up -- possibly the child had two middle names? McKenzie, George Thomas (I3131)

2912 Children listed in the 1870 White Co census notation. Oliver, Henderson (I2546)

2913 Children of Andrew Roush and Catherine Hoot are listed in The Roush Family of America, Vol II, pg 118 - 119

It is my guess that Andrew ROUSE/ROUSH moved to Howell Co MO not long before 1860. His older children had apparently married in OH, as they are not present in the home (only Eli and Jerome). The gap in years before the next set of children indicates the likelihood that Catherine HOOT died, and Andrew remarried. He is no longer in Howell County by the time of the 1870 census. Since the "Roush Family in America" book indicates that Elias and Jerome were buried in Elkhard, Indiana, the family may have relocated to this area. One motivation for the move might have been the extremely violent condition of Howell County throughout the Civil War.
Roush, Andrew (I158)

2916 Children of Nancy Davis and James McGhee in hard copy from Connie Sieveking, in my Davis file. Davis, Nancy (I3003)

2917 Children of Sarah Davis and James A. Pearce in hard copy from Connie Sieveking, in my files. Davis, Sarah (I2992)

2918 Children of Thomas Spencer CROWDER and Elizabeth HOLLOWAY are listed in the content of the e-mail from Cheryl BELL, source #233.

May appear in Mississippi Co ARK census in the home of Andrew Heatherington, as a schoool teacher. Right age, right birth state. A Mary CROWDER is also present in the home, also a teacher. Also a child, Evan Crowder. Mary is not the name of his known wife, who appears with him in the 1900 census - could have been a first wife? Or this may not be his family.

2928 Citing Biographical History of Crawford, Ida and Sac Counties:

"Isaac Gillmor, one of the early settlers of Denison Township located in this county in 1869, and the following spring he located a tract of 180 acres of improved land in Washington Township, Washington County, Iowa. He made his home in this township for two years, making improvements, and then traded this property for a farm in Denison Township, where he is now residing on Section 29, on 480 acres in Denison Township.

This was but partially improved, having some broken land and a residence. He has added until he now has 766 acres, all in one body, and it is one of the finest farms in the county. He has always made a specialty of stock-raising, feeding and shipping his own stock, and has been one of the largest growers in the county. He has made cattle his leading line. He is one of the leading and representative agriculturists of the county.

Our subject was born in County Sligo, Ireland, February 14, 1835, and was the son of Stewart and Rebecca (Hart) Gillmor. In 1847 the family came to America, locating in Davenport, where the father entered a tract of eighty acres, at $1.25 per acre, and also pre-empted eighty acres. Here he remained until 1856, when he removed to Illinois, where he died. The mother died in 1867, leaving a family of eight children, our subject being the only one in this part of the State. The latter began farming for himself in 1858, by entering a tract of 160 acres in Scott County. Here he began for himself, and only ceased his farming to enter the Army when the call came for troops to suppress the rebellion. He enlisted August 1, 1861, in Company C, Second Iowa Calvary, and was mustered out of the Army as First Lieutenant, at Selma, Alabama. He was wounded at the battle of Tupelo in the head by a minie ball. He now has the murderous little bullet in his possession. The wound was almost in the center of the crown of his head. His war record is a fine one. He was at the Battles of Siege of Corinth, Franklin, Columbia, and he was in all the battles of his regiment and in all the skirmishes around Nashville, Tennessee. After the cruel war was over he returned to Scott County, and remained there until 1869, when he came to Crawford County and was one of the first settlers here in Washington Township. He is a live energetic man, desiring the good of the county in every way. He has held the office of Township Treasurer for the past fifteen years. He has also been one of the directors of the Crawford County Fair Association, and also belongs to a number of soldier associations.

Our subject was married November 30, 1865, to Miss Hannah M. Connor, who was born in 1844 and came to the States in 1846. She was reared in Scott County. They have a fine family of six children: Margaret, Grace, Nellie, Olive, Ira and Edith. Nellie was married Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1892 to Mr. F. Goudie, of Denison, where they are located; Margaret has been engaged in school teaching for several years. Grace is also a teacher, having been teaching for three years in the Denison School. Our subject is a strong believer in education and has given his children the best of school facilities. He is a member of the John A. Logan Post No. 58, and is a Past Commander. He and his wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Denison. He is a self-made man, as he began with little and has worked his way up. He has fully demonstrated that farming in Iowa can be made a financial success."

Wagoner Co, OK history, page 286:
Goodpaster, Roy (Buck)
Grandfather John Goodpaster was born in England and came to Kentucky.
Grandmother Ella Fostina Reedy was born in Germany and came to Kentucky.
John Goodpaster and Ella Fostina Reedy married and came to Indian
Territory
and settled near Welch, OK. The first two children born to them died.
Following are the children who survived:
Jessie Herman Goodpaster, born in 1882 at Little Caney near Welch, died
in
1972.
Pearl Goodpaster Newcomb, moved to Coweta area.
Ruby Goodpaster Webb moved to Portsmouth, Ohio area.
Gem Goodpaster Wood moved to Pawhuska, Oklahoma area.
Jenny Goodpaster died at the age of 18 with tuberculosis.
Sam Goodpaster, in the Muskogee area.
Grandfather, Thomas Spencer Crowder 1849-1901. Grandmother Betty Jane
Holloway Crowder 1858-1902. Born to them in Tennessee:
Will Crowder, John Crowder, Alice Crowder Cavin, in Arkansas; Walsh
Crowder, Colorado; Pearl Crowder Gadberry, to Wagoner area; Mary
Elizabeth
Crowder Goodpaster; Lily Crowder Foust, Arkansas; Allen Crowder,
Arkansas;
Jesse Herman Goodpaster and Mary Elizabeth Crowder, (Jesse 1882-1972,
Mary
Elizabeth 1888-1962) were married by Mary Crowder's cousin Robert
Holloway
in 1908 in Moko, Arkansas, Fulton County. Jesse Herman grew up in Salem,
Ark, West Plains, MO and Koskna. Mary Elizabeth moved from TN to Salem,
Ark. area. They married in 1908 after three weeks they came by covered
wagon to Welch, OK. Grandma and Grandpa John Goodpaster also came to OK
at
the same time and settled in the same area. Velma Goodpaster Gilmore was
born in Welch, Wagoner Co; Ethel Goodpaster Hays born in Peggs, to
Wagoner.
Roy (Buck) Goodpaster, born in Peggs 31 May 1915, moved to Wagoner County
in Wassam Chapel area. Irene Goodpaster Sellers was born in Gaylor Bend
area, Wagoner Co. Jesse Wayne Goodpaster was born in Gaylor Bend area. My
dad bought our home place in 1920. I grew up and married and moved back
to
the old home place, started to school in old Courtney school, went one
year. Mr. McClure was my teacher at Courtney School. So by this time we
became acquainted with and neighbored with both districts. Some of the
families I can remember from early 1920's on are the Gaylors and
Courtneys,
also Butler, Lee, Willis, Judge Cheever, Calvin Gross, Satterwhite,
Marceau, McCowan, Murray, Stout, Cleland, Messemore, Talley, Lewis,
Andrew,
Williams, Wymer, Coffey, Jones, Winton, Rutherford, Ashwood, Brown,
Pennington, Towe, Caywood, BEzona, Owens, McLendon, Wilson, Cocke,
Wingate,
Duvall, Anderson. I can remember when Gaylor Bend boys would walk (ford)
Grand River and play baseball with Prairie School and Victory School, now
known as Clear Creek area. On Sept. 30, 1942 I married Ethel Lee Roach,
Booth Bend area. We have two children, a daughter, Velta Fern Goodpaster,
19 November 1943; a son, Sherman Kent Goodpaster 31 October 1945. Kent
married Eva June Perryman on 5 May 1972. Eva June was born 24 April 1953,
and was from Chouteau. They have two daughters, Kelly Sue Goodpaster,
born
7 May 1974 in Wagoner Community Hospital, and Brenda Lee Goodpaster, born
7
September 1976 in Pryor Grand Valley Hospital. We still live on the old
Goodpaster homeplace. The first school at Courtney was held in log house,
one-fourth mile south of Courtney in corner. Francis Courtney gave the
school two acres. They built a new school on the corner. It started in
1909. Later it burned and the present building was built. The government
bought it in early 1940's and later it was sold at sealed bid government
sale and has been used as a dwelling house since that time. Later the
Gaylor Bend community was growing and needed their own school. They
circulated a petition needed so many signatures. My dad, Jess Goodpaster
and Dave Whitehorn were asked to sign to have enough signatures being
told
they would remain in Courtney District. Then after the Gaylor Bend
district
school was voted in, they moved the dividing line to one-half mile, Sec.
33-18-19 placing both the Goodpasters and the Whitehorn in Gaylor Bend
District with extra mill levage needed for building fund.
*Cheryl Bell notes: Grandfather John Goodpaster referred to is John
Oakley
Goodpaster. He was not born in England; he was born in Kentucky. Family
tradition being repeated here, with no proof to date. Ella Fostina Reedy
born in
Missouri, again family tradition with no proof.
The correct name for my grandfather is Jess Herman Goodpaster.
John Oakley Goodpaster and Ella Fostina Reedy had three children who died
early, Jess Herman being the fourth child, and eldest of six surviving
children.
Thomas Spencer Crowder and Betty Jane Holloway were the parents of Mary
Elizabeth Crowder, who married Jess Herman Goodpaster.

Hello Janis Walker Gilmore,

It appears that we are related somehow. I have not taken the time to figure it all out. My Great Grandmother is Theresa Forman (Gilmore). From what I have pieced together great grandma was raise by her grandmother and grandfather, Jas and Mary Gilmore ( located in Oxford County). I have yet to try and find the burial cemetery but I believe it is Otterville (near Paris, Woodstock, Ontario).
Great Grandma was born in 1856 and passed away March 18, 1957 a few days short of her 101st birthday. She had five children. Clara Amelia Forman (Bridges) is my grandmother.

Back to great grandmother, I understand she lived with her grandparents starting at the age of 2-4. Her father and mother, Jas Gilmore and Eliza Sommers lives are difficult to trace. There are rumors that they died either through a contagious disease, or where killed somehow or moved to the United States and I?m not sure where. I haven?t been able to find a reliable source of information to know what actually happened.

Theresa married Wallace David Forman who is from New York. He worked on ?New York -- Central Railway?. The rail cars were ferried across the St Clair River from Marine City, Michigan (USA) to Courtright (near Sarnia) and ended up in Toronto. I imagine that is how they met when he was passing through Oxford. They lived on a farm outside Inwood, located in Lambton County, Ontario, Canada. They had 5 children ? Elwood, Melvin, Roy, Clara, Ralph.

Sorry I do not know this Thomas or any other of the siblings. As far as I know there was Jas Gilmore (Senior) ( born- 1803?) and then son Jas Gilmore (Junior) ( died 1858?) . According to records Gilmore could have 2 ?LL?s? or 1 ?L?.

That?s about as far as I have traced my history in this part of the family . I hope this helps

Yours truly,
Wray Lamb

Janis,

Maybe the Thomas?s full name was Thomas James Gilmore and they called him ?Jas?. I have several references to that name. From your information his wife?s name ? Mary ? seems to match. My records show Jas Gilmore ( born 1803 ? buried -- -- (year????) Norwich South, Oxford, Ontario) --- Mary Gilmore ( maiden name ???? -- you indicated ? Reid?) ( born 1808 ? buried ( year??) --Norwich South, Oxford South, Ontario) which I believe is one of the cemeteries in Otterville, Ontario. I have some bible history and then what I have found on line?ancestery.ca plus other websites.

As far as Theresa she lived to be almost 101 (born: 1856 d: 1957) is buried in Alvinston Cemetery ( Lambton County, Ontario) . Her husband Wallace David Forman died from a heart attack ( born 1854?d: 1921) and is buried in the Alvinston Cemetery. For a number of years Theresa and her bachelor son ?Elwood? lived on the farm near Inwood. Sorry to say they lost the farm due to tax nonpayment in the late 1940?s or early 1950?s. Elwood come and lived with us for short time ( I remember that) while Theresa lived with other son Melvin until her death.

Do you have any more info on James and Eliza (Sommers) who are Theresa birth parents??? Like I said I?m not sure what happened to them..
No I have not been DNA tested and I?m not sure what that would gain. So not sure on this one.

When you ask about other extend family members ? what do you mean? Because you end up in a lot of different trees when start expanding to the children?s connections. Other than great grandma ( parents and grandparents) I have no information on the rest of the Gilmore family connections.

Cheers
Wray

Janis,

What detail. I did my research about 10 years ago and of course run into brick walls and my access to ancestery.ca run out. Plus, I pretty well came to the conclusion that I had to start investigating by visiting the actual sites/locations to further my records. So I had to dig out the books again just to review my memory of the information I had collected.
We can debate whether Gillmore is two ?L? or 1 ?L?
Maria Theresa Gilmore ( Gillmore) was born July 10, 1856, Ontario Canada?died March 17, 1957 buried in Alvinston, Ontario.
Wallace David Forman was born September 3, 1854, England --- died MAR 20,1921 buried in Alvinston, Ontario ( There are many Forman?s when I searched New York data but I have no record of when they migrated from England to New York,USA). ( He worked on the New York Central Railway and came to Canada when they expand their rail service.)
Parents--- James H Gillmore---- born Oct 1 1829 Sligo, Ireland ---- Died Sept 1913 where???? ( They likely came to Canada with his parents when ????)
Eliz Ann Sommers--- born July 13 1832 Ireland --- Died August 22 1858 Ontario Canada ( I did not realize that I had this information until I looked at my records)
Grand parents --- James ( Jas) Gillmore ? Born 1803 ( suspect it is Ireland??? -- Died Year??? Norwick South Oxford, Ontario -- When they migrated to Canada ??????
---- Mary Gillmore ? ( as you indicated maiden name ? Reid) born 1808 ( suspect Ireland ????) -- Died Year??? Norwick South, Oxford, Ontario
--- suspect both grandparents are buried in Otterville, Ontario but I need to go to the cemetery to confirm that if I can read the tombstones but maybe the cemetery has records

We drive passed the roads that lead to Otterville on numerous trips to see other family ( Ottawa to Sarnia trip via 401) . However the car ride is 8-9 hours so If we stop and explore then that would add 3-4 hours so it would make it a very long day or you would have to book in for the night. But one of these days it will happen.

I know this a repeat of some of the information that I already sent to you. But this is as far as I have taken it. I found by going to all family members that the files, dates, relationships got too confusing so I mainly concentrated on the my direct family line ( unless I run into a brick wall). You should try and research the ?Lamont? clan out of Scotland which the Lamb family is a member. The paths are very broken over the course of history. Dead ends every time you turn around.

Hope this helps but it looks like you have more information on the Gilmores than I do.

Janis

I looked in the family bible and I have the actual funeral cards and some paper clippings of their deaths and all they talk about is where they lived and living members of their family ( children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren)? There is nothing referring to their parents.

The other information I will have to search for. I imagine that I found it on ancestry.ca. However I can?t get to my online family tress without taking out a new membership for 3,or 6 or 12 months.

I will have to get back to you. We have a busy week ahead so I?m time is going to be limited.
