Indexed on Ancestry.com as "Jacob R. Melder"; alternate name submitted by someone of "Jacob R. Miller." It is, however, certainly the same Jacob R. Walker who appeared in the 1900 Izard County, Arkansas, census. His age and birthplace support this, as does his wife's name, and his son's name and age (Oscar, 15). As with the 1900 Izard Co Census, it is not certain that this is the same Jacob Walker who was the son of Elijah Walker of Dickson Coumty, Tennessee; see comments attached to 1900 census for points supporting the argument. | Source (S792)

Iola may have been adopted, and given the name Iola Jewell Whalen. She is clearly referred to as Iola Whalen in the 1953 obituary of her brother Jackie [Clark] Rader--also apparently adopted or with a foster family.
She is clearly called Iola Guhde in the 1998 obituary of her sister Edna.
FindAGrave names her as "Iola Jewell (Whelen) Guhde" and names her parents as Leo Dennis Whelan and Irene Mae (Reedy) Whelan.
The SSDI gives the birth date of Iola J. Guhde as 13 August 1942, which fits perfectly to make her the second child of John L. Clark and second wife Virginia.
FindAGrave gives the same birth date. | Clark, Iola Jewell (I3899)

It has been a mystery to me, how Levi Henderson Walker (known as "Henderson") got all the way out to Grays Harbor County in Washington state. However, it turns out that his step-cousin, George F. DRYMAN, can be found in the same county in the 1930 census. Possibly they moved out together.
After the early death of Henderson's father (Henderson was 13), his mother married a second time to Henry Dryman, a widower who lived in the area. The George F. Dryman who moved to Aberdeen, Grays Harbor, WA was his nephew. | Walker, Levi Henderson (I716)

It is by no means certain that this is the Jacob Walker who was the son of Elijah Walker, and who left Tennessee after the Civil War. However, supporting the likelihood are 1) the family story that he had left Tennessee suddenly after some sort of unfortunate, possibly violent, incident; 2) that the age and birth state of this Jacob Walker are compatible with our Jacob Walker, and 3) that we know Tom Walker (his nephew, who would have known him as a young boy) ran into him at a sale in Arkansas, and said that "Jake" was living in Arkansas. A death certificate for Jacob might be helpful in determining his parentage with more certainty.
An additional note about this census. It would appear that Jacob's birth year was given as 1857, but his age is clearly stated as 48, which would make the birth year 1852. I have transcribed it as it appears to me to have been written, but I believe 1852 is probably the more accurate date. | Source (S223)

It is interesting to note the dearth of information supplied for his death certificate. Usual residence unknown, wife's last name unknown, etc. It would appear that he may have been living in the veteran's home. It is not clear why Amanda is enumerated in her parents' home in 1900, as "Amanda Herndon," and with no son in the household--since she was clearly married in 1910, with a 12-year-old son. In 1910 both she and her husband are noted to be in their first marriage. | Family (F3324)

It is possible that this is not the Benjamin McFARLAND that married Elizabeth Johnson and is found in the 1876 Texas County census-- possibly an uncle? There is an age discrepancy with the 1876 Texas Co census, which states he is over 45 -- if he were born in 1838, he would only be 38. | McFarland, Horace Benjamin (I692)

| 3540 |
It is possible, since William (at age 14) was listed after Charlest (at age 9), that William was the son of a first Bolerjack marriage, and not the son of Martha. As head of the household it would be natural for Martha to list her natural son first and her step-son second. This is pure postulation, of course. | Bolerjack, William (I3315)

It is too great a coincidence that the Rausch family book would indicate an Eva Roush with a son, Philip Arbogast who had moved from PA to MO. PLUS finding a Philip Arbogast in Howell Co, b in PA, who named a daughter Eva. This is certainly a nephew of John Roush. | Arbogast, Philip Allen (I237)

It seems apparent that Boyd must have been John Jasper Campbell's father (grave, naming, etc) - but Matilda, his wife in the 1880 census would not have been old enough to be his mother. I had therefore theorized that he was married earlier to a first wife. Recently I found a posting on Texas County website that supported this theory (see citation.) | [Campbell], [First Wife] (I588)

It seems reasonable to assume that James was the son of Mary Jane BEARD, because of the gap between him and his next older sibling, Sarah, who would have been the child of Nancy HARDESTY. | McKenzie, James A. (I2622)

It would appear that Andrew's first wife has died prior to 1830. By the ages of children in his home, they would have been married 1805 - 1815. They have a daughter 15 - 20, and 2 sons 10 - 15.
Death of first wife; John N. born ca 1824; absent from 1830 census. Andrew Story recommended as one of 5 gentlemen who were "proper persons to be added to the commission of the peace in this county." It would be easy to confuse this William Gazoway Tidwell, son of Gazoway Tidwell and Martha Shelton, with William G. Tidwell, son of Vincent Tidwell and Phoebe Rackley. They were born within a few days of each other, and died within a couple of years of one another. It should be noted that the similarity in name and ages should be looked out for. | Tidwell, William Gazoway (I3573)
