• Notes

  Married: In her 1840 Floyd County census enumeration as head of household, "Maryan Gray" has five children: a son under 5, two daughters under 5, and two daughters between 5-10. She was probably enumerated in 1830 as the female age 20-30 in her mother's household. Children usually came a year or so after marriage and at regular two-year intervals, though some of these could have been born to a previous marriage. It is likely, however, that Polly married soon after 1830.
