"Services Set For Victim Of Explosion
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Runge chapel, Davenport, for Robert Gillmor, 41, of near Donahue who was the victim of an explosion Sunday. Burial will be in Allen's Grove cemetery.
Mr. Gillmor died at 3:40 a.m. Monday in DeWitt community hospital. He was fatally burned when a gasoline tank on an old automobile he was dismantling with a cutting torch exploded about 6 p.m. Sunday.
The accident occurred at the home of Gillmor's father, about three and one-half miles west of Donahue.
Members of the family said the gasoline tank was thought to have been empty. It is not known whether fumes remaining in the tank was partly filled, authorities said.
Born near Donahue, June 23, 1914, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gillmor. He married Helen Harrison, October 24, 1955, in the Little Brown church in Nashua. He farmed for 15 years and had been employed at the Oscar Mayer Co. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and of the Donahue Sportsmen's club.
Survivors include the wife: a step-son: Keith Harris; two step-daughters, Mrs. Kenenth [sic] Starkweather, all of Muscatine; three step-grandchildren; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Gillmor, R. R. Mo 1, Donue, two brothers, Stewart of Davenport and John of Donahue, and a sister, Mary Ann of Donahue. " |
