"W. J. Gilmore Services Tues. At Nevada
Nevada -- Funeral services were held at the Morfoot funeral home here Tuesday afternoon for W. J. Gilmore, pioneer Story county resident, who died at his home in Nevada Sunday morning following a several weeks illness. Burial was in the Nevada cemetery. The Rev. George A. Mr. Gilmore was born in New York state on Christmas day 1850, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. George Gilmore. He came to Iowa with his parents at the age of 4 and the family settled on what came to be known as the Gilmore homestead in Milford township. There the parents died and there the son lived until after the death of his first wife in 1897. he then moved into Nevada and had since made his home here.
He was first married to Miss Jerusha Norton, daughter of a pioneer Zearing family, in 1868. Eleven chidden were born to this union, eight of whom survive. Jerusha Gilmore died in 1897. Twenty-four years ago, Mr. Gilmore was married again, this time to Miss Laura DeCamp, who survives. The wife has been in failing health for several years and lately has been confined to the state hospital at Clarinda. At the request of the aged husband, she was brought home a few weeks ago but her condition became acute and she was returned to the hospital Saturday.
