The Laclede County Republican:
"George T. Wood
George T. Wood, well known resident of the Oakland neighborhood, died on February 6, at his home, at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 5 days. He had pneumonia and was sick but a short time, not being confined to his bed until Sunday, the 5th.
Funeral services were held at Antioch church, at Oakland, the pastor, Rev. Mr. Knight, of Stoutland, officiating. The choir sang "Oh Think of the Home Over There," "Abide With Me" and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again." Interment was in the adjoining cemetery, the pall bearers being neighbors. There was a large attendance, many from Lebanon being present.
George Thomas Wood was a son of George W. and Sarah Wood, pioneer residents, and was born on a farm in the Oakland neighborhood on October 1, 1862. He was converted and united with Old Antioch Church when it was located in Bee Branch district, retaining his membership when the church was moved to Oakland.
He never was married and died on the farm on which he was born, living there with his sister, Miss Jane Wood, and brother, Walker Wood.
He is survived by one sister, Miss Jane Wood, and four brothers, Walker Wood, Charles L. Wood and Eli Wood, of the Oakland neighborhood, and Frank Wood, of Lebanon. Twenty-two nieces and nephews also survive." |
