    • There is one MILLER in the 1880 census that is unmarried and has children whose mother was born in TN: 1880 Howell Co MO census: 345-341, Myatt Twp MILLER Ira, w-m-m, 48, farmer IN IN IN Tennessee J., w-f-s, dau, at home MO IN TN Margaret E., w-f-s, dau, at home, MO IN TN Thomas C., w-m, 14, son, farm labor, MO IN TN James C., w-m, 11, son, farm labor, MO IN TN Robert T., w-m, 4, son, MO IN TN

This last son would have been around the right age, if Martha died in childbirth. All speculation, however. The eldest daughter being named Tennessee J. would seem to support the theory - this could even be Tennessee Jane, after her aunt (Phoebe Tennessee CROWDER) and her grandmother (Jane Tidwell TACKER CROWDER).

There are several MILLER families in the 1880 census, all from TN. Aunt Della also indicated that several families moved together from Giles Co Tn. The MILLER family might possibly have been among them. I find a marriage for Tennessee MILLER to Marion WILL on 14 Nov 1880 Howell Co MO - but they are not found in the 1900 census.

I did find, however, an Ira R. MILLER, b MO April 1875. He would be the right age to be the same person as Robert T. MILLER, son of Ira MILLER in the 1880 census. The 1880 census in Howell Co frequently put the middle name first, used the full middle name and the initial from the first name (I know that is confusing, even as I state it -- and it causes no end of problem in using the 1880 census). The letter "I" could easily be confused with "T" in transcription. I would guess that this is probably the son of Martha TACKER and Ira MILLER. The one with whom she may have died in childbirth. Particularly in view of the fact that his son is named "Earl" - a name which Phoebe Tennessee CROWDER used for my grandfather. Also, his wife is "Ida", a name which Phoebe T. CROWDER used as well. As the half-sister of Martha, and the only one of the siblings alive or still in the area, Phoebe may have been very important to the MILLER children, and had close ties to them. This Ira is found in Myatt Twp with the neighbors that Ira Sr. had in the 1880 census. He may have stayed and taken over the family farm, while Ira and others moved elsewhere. I cannot identify anyone else in the 1880 census as being possibly one of this family.

Tennessee J. MILLER married James M. MOORE 22 April 1881, Howell Co. Don't know what happened to the first marriage? Was that her?

Della states that Martha Ann was the child of Jane Eveline Tidwell's first marriage to a man named TACKER. The 1850 census lists her in the Crowder household as Martha Crowder. However, the 1860 census shows her to be Martha Tacker.

Martha Ann's implied surname in this census data is Crowder. Actually, however, her name was Martha Ann Tacker, and she was the daughter of Jane's first marriage.

    8. [S41] Missouri, Howell - Cemetery, Walker Chapel, (County Road 2980, near Trask, Howell County, Missouri), marker for Martha P. Miller [Martha A. Miller] (Reliability: 3).
Because Martha P. Miller is buried between Jane Eveline (Tidwell) Crowder and Elizabeth (Crowder) Stokes, and because her birthdate is compatible, it is reasonable to postulate that she is probably Martha Tacker, the daughter of Jane Eveline Tidwell's first marriage. Martha must have married a MILLER in 1) Tennessee, prior to the move, or 2) during the family's stay in Butler County, or 3) after the move to Howell County.

There is an Ira Miller found in the 1880 Howell County, Missouri, census, with a 4-year-old son. He is widowed, and the mother of the child is born in Tennessee. It is possible that this is Martha's family.
