Joshua's widow, Martha, states in the final homestead proof: "J.T. Crowder, my former husband died Mch 9th 1879. Know this to be a fact as I was present at the time. He complied with the homestead law by living on and improving homestead entered by him from date of entry to the time of his death." Bluford CROWDER to Jane Elizabeth [sic] TIDWELL 1845. [The bride's name should have been Jane Eveline Tidwell.] This is as close to an actual marriage record as we are likely to come. Since this is a compilation of records from various sources, as a replacement for records destroyed by Federal forces during the Civil War, it is impossible to know the exact source of the info.
