On this date John L. Temple deserted his regiment. In August, probably of the same year (the record is missing the year) he was captured at Corinth, Mississippi. The notation was "passed home."
Craig Scott, genealogist and military expert, believes this indicates that he was captured by the Union army after he deserted the Confederates, that he took the oath of allegiance to the U.S., and was sent through the lines back home. |
