	Age in 1850 census appears to be 30, but may be 36, which would again come out to approximately 1814 for birth. 1850 census gives Canada as his birthplace, while the 1860 gives New York. 1855 census also gives Canada as his birthplace. It seems likely that the earlier census is correct on this point. DJ Brannan document states that he was probably born in Brome, Lower Canada, abt 1820 [2] Age in May 1841, marriage, stated as 22.

	A Josiah Pratt appears in the 1840 Niagara Co NY census, but the profile does not appear to fit our family: Josiah Pratt 1 male of 5 and under 10 1 male of 15 and under 20 1 male of 30 and under 40 1 male of 40 and under 50 1 female of 10 and under 15 1 female of 15 and under 20 1 female of 30 and under 40 6 total [sic] 1 engaged in agriculture Additionally, a Josiah Pratt appears on a list of residents of the town of Cambria before 1850, along with a Josias T. It is likely that this is them. He would account for the 1 male of militia age.] Since "Josiah" Pratt was taxed in this township in 1865-66, this is certainly him. Possibly the enumerator abbreviated "Jos. Pratt" and latter transcribed as Joseph? Heard it wrong? Perhaps he used Joseph and Josiah interchangeably? I have never seen it used for him elsewhere, so more likely to be an error.]

RESEARCH	Orinda appears in the 1875 Marshall Co Kansas state census with husband Rudolph Smith. Next door to them is a Hurlburt family from Wisconsin and NY. Possible connection to George Gilmore's sister Jane who was married to a Hurlburt? [12]

Narrative His probate file reflects the appointment of his widow Nancy as administrator; her posted bond was supported by that of her son-in-law George W. Gilmore. The file named Josiah?s widow and children as his heirs; the children named were Orinda, Arthusa (Vienna Arthusa), Joseph W., Alice, Ida M., and Mary J. Pratt.
