Mexico Ledger:
"Dorothy L. McAllister, 85, formerly of Mexico, MO and Bixby, OK passed away at her home in Fort Myers Beach, FL on August 30, 2018.
Dorothy was one of thirteen children born to Hugh and Lottie Bogle in Leslie, MO on November 10, 1932. She was married to Ben H. McAllister in New London, MO on July 2, 1955.
Ben and Dorothy lived in Mexico, MO, for over forty years, where they were owners of McAllister Beer Distributorship . It was here that she devoted herself to raising her family and will always be remembered for her kindness, her quirky sense of humor and her love of all board and card games. Dorothy spent her retirement years traveling with Ben by motor home to visit family and friends. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, whose greatest joy was spending quality time with her family. The grandchildren, who lovingly called her ?Nanny?, admired her multi talents which included sewing, painting, coloring and cooking. But mainly they loved her cooking. All the children and grandchildren loved to see Nanny in the kitchen. Some of her most coveted dishes were her bar-b-que brisket, Texas sheet cake, snack bread, and pies. One of her proudest moments was winning the blue ribbon at the Tulsa State Fair for the Baptismal gown she made for one of her granddaughters.
Survivors include her husband, Ben, five children, Teresa (Randy) Gruber of Fort Myers, FL, Anna (Casey) Birmingham of Kansas City, MO, Debbie (John) Myers of Broken Arrow, OK, Ben Jr. (Melissa) of Oklahoma City, OK and Jim (Jill) of Euharlee, GA; two stepchildren, Chuck of Modesto, CA, Donna (J.D) Davidson of Mountain View, CA, and a niece, Sue (Denny) Comstock of Puyallup, WA, who Dorothy raised as one of her own. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one sister, Mary Yelton of Wellsville, MO, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, eleven of her siblings, and a great grandson, Dawson Gray.
All services will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Southwood Colonial Chapel, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Visitation will be Thursday, September 13, at 6 pm, followed by the Rosary at 7 pm. Services will be Friday, September 14 at 2 pm, followed immediately by burial at the Calvary Cemetery, Tulsa, OK.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothy may be honored with contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer?s Association." |
