Military |
June 1861-December 1861 |
Missouri, USA [8, 9] |
Henry K. Hartley served in Co.'s A and H of the 4th Missouri Cavalry from at least June to December of 1861. He served as both a Lieutenant and a Lt. Col., resigning his commission on 4 December 1861, the same day as his older brother Thomas J. Hartley. [More research should be done to discover what motivated the resignation; I suspect it had to do with political affiliations.] |
Migration |
About 1864 |
Polk County, Oregon, USA [10, 11] |
In 1864, Henry moved his young family from Missouri to Idaho, probably traveling in "McPike's train" with his brother William and wife Eliza Ann (sister to Henry's wife Sarah Jane). The two couples left the train in Boise rather than continuing on to its terminus in Oregon. A few months later, however, they moved on to Polk County, Oregon, while William and Eliza Ann remained in Idaho. Henry's older sister Luvina and husband Richard Tatom had been living in neighboring Benton County, Oregon, since about 1854. (Luvina and Richard were the parents of William C. Tatom with whom Henry had mined in California.) |
