The Topeka Daily Capital:"Frank Zeiser, who used to run the little Dutch bakery down street, and whose domestic trials and tribulations would fill a large volume, has cleared out, taking with him the fair damsel who has been his shop companion for some months past, and whose profile was copied from the frontispiece of some comic almanac. Frank has been on the "ragged edge" for some time. His wife left him and west [sic] east, and he commenced an action for divorce. Wife came back and offered objections?divorce not granted. Wife undertook to reinstate herself in her rightful position of boss of the establishment?made it exceedingly hot for Frank and the pretty damsel who was helping him to bake. Had wife arrested for disturbing his domestic peace and happiness.. Trial set for Thursday last?result, non eat Ziegler, non eat fair damsel, and case dismissed. Wife remains principal chicken on the potato hill, and will have divorce of her own. ? Osborne County Farmer." |

1899 |
Marion County, Illinois, USA |
There were 2 George W. Gilmores in Marion Co at this time. Remarkably, while \"my\" George W. was married to Etta M., alternately seen as Attie, Ettie, etc.--the other one was married to \"Adda B.,\" also seen as Addie. To add to the confusion Adda was born in Nov 1858, while Etta (Matteson) Gilmore was born in Dec 1854 [1900 census], 1859 [1860 & 1870 & 1880 census], 1863 (1895 Kansas census), or 3 May 1858 (KY death cert). So the two women were close in age.
Though a major coincidence, the two couples can be separated. The other George was Rev. George Washington Gilmore, b. 1843 KY, d 1924 in St. Louis, buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Marion Co IL [FindAGrave]. His wife was Adda B. Booth and they married 1878 Marion Co IL. Their land transactions were in the Kinmundy area of Marion Co, while the subject George and Etta were in Centralia.
While a major coincidence (husbands\' names, wives\' names, an ages of wives) they can be separated from one another. |
