      Verna McBride of Dix Dies At Age of 64 Years

      Mrs. Verna McBride, of Dix, died at 1:10 a.m. today at Good Samaritan Hospital at the age of 64 years, 11 months and 27 days.

      Mrs. McBride had been a patient at the hospital since last Thursday, when she suffered a stroke when the McBride home at Dix caught fire.

      Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Dix Christian church. The Rev. Harry Black, the pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Zion Grove (County Line) cemetery.

      The body will remain at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, where friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday.

      Mrs. McBride was the daughter of L. V. and Winnie (Parker) Walker.

      Forty-five years ago she was married to Bert McBride, who survives.

      She was a member of the Dix Christina church.

      Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, John L. of Cetnralia; one daughter, Mrs. Flossie Bond of Dix; six grandchildren; one brother, J. F. Walker of Dix; and three sisters, Mrs. Iva Gossett and Mrs. Daisy Flowers of Walnut Hill and Mrs. Vena Hawkins, her twin sister, of Dix.

    • Levi's 1900 census enumeration lists both "Verna" and "Vena" as daughters, both born in January 1889, middle initial for both may be a "C." Apparent twins. One birth record apears in the FamilySearch Illinois Births and Christenings, 1824-1940," for a "Vera Myrtie Cora Walker" born on 22 January 1889--clearly the other sister would have been born the same date.

      Additionally, Winnie's obit names surviving daughters "Verna McBride" and "Vena Hawkins."

      Difficult to sort out which is which, so which is Vera Myrtie Cora?
