There is a William H. YATES found in the 1870 census of Hancock IL - right age (26), b IL. He is residing with Christopher YATES age 75 b NY and his wife Catherine 71 b NY. In an ancestry.com search of the 1870 census, this is the only william that turns up within two years of the right age, b in IL, anywhere in the U.S. Middle initial doesn't match up - but this is perhaps understandable since one is R and one is H. I don't feel convinced that this is him, but it is a possibility worth noting.

There is something wrong with this picture. Nancy's age is listed as 21 in this census, which would have made her 11 at the time of her marriage and 12 at the birth of her first child. The 1860 White Co IL census, however, indicates her age as 36, which is more reasonable. She would have been 16 at marriage and 17 at the birth of her first child.
