Vernon Combs was an award-winning rodeo cowboy, and a retired livestock nutritionist and feed distribution manager. He was a recipient of the Nebraskaland Days Trail Boss Award. Vernon was also a U.S. Marine Purple Heart recipient, wounded at the Battle of Iwo Jima (1944) during World War II. Vernon was a high priest in the Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) and Vera was the manager of the North Platte [NE] LDS Family History Center. Vernon and Vera (Dillin) Combs had three children, surname Combs: Lynette Combs (Mrs. Lawrence Young), a talented pianist; Dr. Steven Combs, an award-winning dentist; and Kevin Combs, CPA."  [1]
