Obituary, Martha Jane (Walker) Phipps, Mountain View Standard
Mrs Martha Jane Walker was born January 2nd, 1870 in Hickman county[,] Tennessee. She came to Missouri at the age of three years and has made her home here ever since. She passed away Sunday, March 16, 1947, at 2:30 p.m. She was united in matrimony to James T. Phipps November 1892.

To this union were born eight children, four of which have gone on before. Surviving her are three brothers and one sister; four children, Mrs. Mabel Osbone [Osborn], Tim and Dick Phipps of Howell county, Missour and Paul Phipps of Springfield, Mo; twenty-seven grand children and 15 great grand children.

She gave her heart to the Lord at the age of 15 years and became affiliated with the Church of God in the year 1929. She was a true devoted Christian and a faithful worker for the Lord till old age and sickness made it necessary to resign from her former duties.

She lived a life of faith in the Lord to the end. She also bore her sickness very pleasantly, and has just went before to meet her Lord.
    Her Desire
Under the wide and starry sky,
Dig a grave and let me lie.
Gladly did I live and gladly die,
And glad I lay down with a will
This is the verse you gave for me
Here she lies where she longed to be,
Waiting for the coming of the Lord,
    To live with him eternally.
Her funeral was held at Walker Chapel March 18, 1947 at 2 p.m. by Rev. Jesse L. Ruefenacht, interment in the Walker Chapel cemetery under direction of Duncan Funeral Home

Singers Mrs. Pauline Ruefenacht and two daughters, Ella Mae and Emma Jean. Pall bearers, three sons Paul, Tim and Dick Phipps and three nephews, Henry, Darey and Bobby Phipps.
    Parents
Matt's death certificate named her parents as "Helton Walker" and "Rebecka Thornton," both born in Tennessee. [Maiden name of mother, "Thornton" is correct, but first name "Rebecka" in error. Informant was her son, Tim Phipps.]  [3
