- Nothing further is known of Benjamin's life after he re-enlisted in October 1863. Once more in the 42nd Tennessee Infantry, now under Quarles Brigade. It is likely that he died in military service. It is clear that he had medical issues from at least mid-1862 through mid-1863, including scurvy; these issues may have been contributing factors.
