    Howell Jackson Thornton's limited CMSR is hard to read, but it appears that he enlisted in Voorhies 48th Tennessee Infantry on 2 March 1862, which would have been on the heels of the Confederate loss of Fort Donelson, where his older brother Benjamin and brother in law Helton Rutherford Walker were taken prisoner.

      Could not find sale of Dickson Co property, check deed indices through 1900, when he appears in Douglas Co MO.

      Appears in Dickson Co taxes until 1880, missing in 1881 and 1882 [stopped looking after those dates]. His son

      Appears in Hickman Co taxes from 1881through 1884, missing in 1885. A Sam B. Thornto does appear in district 6, no acreage, 1 white poll, no acreage
