Parents |
Supporting Jacob Walker and Agnes McLean as his parents:- Elijah, Retha, Mary "Polly," Elizabeth, and George H. were known siblings born in Georgia and all found in Dickson County, Tennessee in 1820
- George H. and Jacob were co-administrators of Elizabeth Walker's estate in 1823
- When Elizabeth Walker deeded slaves to Elijah and George H respectively, Archalus Walker came from Illinois to contest the deed, and won the suit
- The above, when taken as a whole, support the sibling relationship of Jacob and Archalus to the known other five siblings
- Joseph named a son Archalus and a daughter "Wreathea" (probably a form of Retha)
- Mary (Walker) Best is found in the 1850 household of Archalaus Walker, listed behind Jacob and Agnes, also living with Archalaus
- The Jehu Walker lawsuit names his siblings as Joseph Walker (making it clear that it is the Joseph married to Barbara), Samuel Walker, and Mary Best (who is specified as residing in Texas, identifying her clearly)
- Though many people think that Joseph and Mary (Walker) Best were the children of a Samuel A. Walker, it seems more than possible that they were the children of Jacob and Agnes McLean
- In conclusion, more research is necessary

Notes |
The 1938 death certificate of Joseph's namesake son, Joseph Walker (born 1851) states that his father was born in Virginia. While census data contradicts this, it may be an indication general family knowledge--that Joseph's father was born in Virginia.

Jacob and Barbara did not yet have children in 1850, and their first known child, Joseph, was born about 1851. It is likely that they had been very recently married. No record of their marriage has been located in the Illinois Online Marriage Index.
