- A search for the given name "Lydia" (and similar, as in Lydie, etc.) finds only one of the approximate right age and right birth state.
A marriage record is found for "L. A. Brown" to G. W. OBryant, 16 Dec 1853. [This entry is indexed on Ancestry as "S. A. Brown," but an examination of other entries on the page confirms that it is "L. A."]
Could Lydia have been briefly married previously? Living in the home with them is Malinda C. Brown--but if that is Lydia's child, Malinda was born when Lydia was about 11. Could Malinda be the child of Lydia's first husband, and not her child?
G. W. OBriant enlisted in the 48th Tennessee (Nixon's), from Lawrence County. His record, briefly examined, appears to include desertion and capture, but it is not clear if the capture is by the Union forces because he was a Confederate or by the Confederate forces for desertion.
None of the family has been located in the 1870 census. G. W. may not have survived the war, and Lydia may have married again. The spelling of the name is problematical, as well. O'Bryant, Obryant, Obriant, etc., making searches difficult.
Searched for each of the children's names in 1870 census for Lawrence County, for neighboring counties, and for neighboring states, with no success. Also searched their names, birth year, and birth state in the general search on the opening page of Ancestry. Nothing forthcoming.
CON: FindAGrave entry for Lydia offers her maiden name as "Brown." Is that just from the marriage document? Was it really Brown?
