Letter to the Editor, November 1929, Fair Play (Missouri) Advocate
"This is to advise you of the change of my post office address, which now is Fayetteville, North Carolina, Rfd. 17. My former address was Fort Bragg, North Carolna. I was retired as of July 1 last after 32 years of Government service as follows: sixteen years civilian service, U. S. Army Sergeant and first Sergeant; six years civilian service, Internatl Revenue agent Island of Puerto Rico; ten years civilian service, general foreman of labor, Quartermaster Corps.
I often think of our old Ozark Hills, and the old fishing and swimming holes. I often wonder about my old chums and school mates. I left the Hartley settlement a lad of sixteen, Sept. 1891, and have been back only once; but I'm coming back to attend some of those Hartley reunions my brother, Asa keeps writing about. I notice he always mentions the EATS and believe me Mr. Editor he's some eater/ Well I don't suppose [sic] all this interest [six] you much, so I'll stop. You might mention my new address in your valuable paper.
Fraternally yours,
Geo. W. Hartley"
