    • Both Myrtle's obit and her death cert specify her birthplace as Beulahville or Beulaville (two different spellings). This town (or variant spelling) has not been located. No county was stated.

    • Who was Myrtle Dora Hartley? Many family members believe she was the daughter of James W. "Wild Jim" Hartley and his third wife Mary Vaughan, born to them in 1881. This would make her second husband, George W. Hartley, her half-brother.

      Myrtle's 1943 NC death certificate names her parents as "William Allen" and "Mary E. Vaughan." Missouri Marriages on Ancestry contains the marriage of a Mary E. Vaughan to William H. Allen in Moniteau County, on 19 October 1865. Was this her mother's first husband, whom she said was her father to hide the half-sibling relationship to her husband? Or was her father really William Allen? [1, 5]
