James Curtis "Curt" Godwin obituary, The Spokesman-Review, Spokane, WashingtonGODWIN, James Curtis "Curt"
James "Curt" Curtis Godwin was called home by the Lord April 5, 2007. Curt was born September 27, 1929 in Ash Flat, Arkansas, the sixth child of Elijah Ransom and Martilia (Horton) Godwin. Curt's mother passed away when he was two and his father married Mae Walker giving the family another loving mother and baby sister. Curt was raised on the family farm in Myron, Arkansas. Curt married Lila Kuest and together they raised their three children Sheryl Ann, James Curtis Godwin Jr. and Pamela Kay in Spokane, Washington except for the two years he was stationed in Dover, Delaware. Curt enlisted in the Air Force in 1945 and made his career as a Flight Engineer serving in both the Korean and Viet Nam Conflicts with distinction receiving the following commendations: World War Two Victory Medal Occupational Forces, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Viet Nam Service Medal. He retired from the Air Force in 1969 and went to work for Inland Monument where he rose to the position of manager until he retired. Curt loved family and to travel, frequently taking his family down home to Arkansas for the large family reunions at his dad's place where family and friends came from all over the country. He always took the time to stop at all the tourist attractions the kids begged to see. He also loved camping and hunting with his Brittany Spaniel, Duch. Mostly he loved spending time at the lake cabin he built where he could fish and watch his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren fish, swim, and ski. He always said the view from the front window was the best there could be. Curt was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Elijah and Carl, sister Winnie Belle Evans, son James Curtis Jr., and two grandchildren Jason Godwin and Beverly Poulliot. He is survived by his wife Lila at home, daughters and son-in-laws; Sheryl (Roger) Sussman of Marydel, DE and Pamela (Paul) Bewick of Spokane Val-ley, WA, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Michelle Poulliot, FL, Daymon (Amy), Samantha and Curtis Owen, Owatonna, MN, Elijah Ransom Godwin, Fort Bragg, NC, Martilia Kay Godwin, CA, Audra (Russell) Andrea, Alexia, and Ryan Hess, Spokane Valley, WA, and Glenn Bewick, Spokane Valley, WA, brother William Godwin, Udall, KS, and sisters Ruby Hastings, East Wenatchee, WA, and Jackie Arnold, Grand Coulee, WA.
