NOTE_RESEARCH |
From Lawson Howland:'Sadie was born en route from Illinois to Kansas. Jay and Sarah both taught school the first winter after marriage, making their home with Sadie's parents in the big three story house her father had built only a few years previous. In 1883 Jay bought his first farm, an unimproved 160 acres adjoining the PAUL farm. He operated the farm and continued to teach for the next twelve years. Sadie's father died soon after the close of the Civil War and her mother lived with the WANAMAKERS some thirty years." [8] |
