    Hi Janis,

Thanks for writing. I have yet to find many confirmed matches with family finder, so I am very happy to find another. I am a descendent of the Jacob Walker that married Agnes McLean (so I guess you now have five kits from that line). My line is:

    Jacob Walker (+ Agnes McLean)
-> John McLean Walker (+ Dinah Moore)
-> Jane Walker (+ Josephus Clark)
-> Randal Walker Clark (+ Lucile Marguerite Pendleton)
-> Lucia Jane Clark (+ Sigurd David Bjorkman)

If you have access to ancestry.com, my tree name is Shipley-Bjorkman, or there is a copy on rootsweb.

I looked in Family Finder on FTDNA for Rufus Walker, but for some reason he does not show up under my matches. Gerald Hartley does show up though. It would be interesting to use the chromosome browser to see which DNA segment we match. Gerald Hartley and I share a long (>10 cM) segment on chromosome 9. Our most recent common ancestor would be your ?Progenitor? Walker and his wife Elizabeth, so that segment on chromosome 9 must have come from one of them.

    Hi,

You have a significant DNA match (115.56 cMs) with Rufus Ray Walker, Jr., whose test results just became available. I manage his kit?and am doing a study on Walker DNA for the Walker family of early Dickson County, Tennessee.

I am a professional genealogist but this is my own Walker family that I am working on. I manage about 20 autosomal DNA kits related to Walker families.

Rufus Ray Walker, Jr., descends from Jacob Walker, b. 1793 Georgia, and his wife Agnes McLean. They married in Dickson Co TN in 1811 and remained there until sometime between 1830 and 1836, when they moved to Madison County, Illinois. Rufus descends from their son Jacob (wife Martha Spence), his daughter Marian Dorcas Walker (husband Vaspasian Clark), and their son Edwin Clark.

You and Rufus both also match Gerald Hartley, who descends from Jacob?s older sister Elizabeth Walker, b. 1790 GA, and her husband James Hartley. Gerald descends from James and Elizabeth Hartley through their son Richard Donovan Hartley (b. 1825 Dickson Co TN), his son Solomon Hartley (b. 1872 Cedar Co MO), his son Thomas Otha Hartley, and his son James Gerald Hartley.

I am most anxious to hear from you about your line of descent.

I am fairly certain of the following siblings who came from a guy I call ?Progenitor? Walker and his wife Elizabeth unknown. (They are often seen as Elijah Walker Sr and Elizabeth ?Piney? McGill in internet trees, but I have found no evidence to support those names?though they may yet prove to be right.)

? Archalaus Walker, b. 1783 VA, d. 1866 Macoupin Co IL. Married, no known issue.
? Samuel Allen Walker, b. abt 1785, Amherst Co VA, d. after 1860, possibly in Kansas or Nebraska. Lived in Madison Co IL 1818-1839, then Rock Island Co IL from 1839-1858, when he moved with some of his family to Kansas. We have one autosomal test from his line, results have not yet come in.
? Elizabeth Walker, b. abt 1790 GA, married James Hartley. They were probably married in Dickson Co TN, remained there until about 1830, when they moved to Bond Co IL. Elizabeth died in Bond Co in 1834. Richard moved with their large family to Polk and Cedar Counties of Missouri, where they more or less remained. We have three autosomal tests from this line, with one more pending results.
? Mary ?Polly? Walker, born abt 1790 GA, married George Brazzell, probably about 1805 in Georgia. They moved to Dickson County TN with the family. They remained there and raised a large family. We have one test from this line (I do not administer it), and he matches 1 other kit?a descendant of the Jacob Walker/Agnes McLean line.
? Jacob Walker, b. abt 1793 GA, married Agnes McLean 1811 Dickson Co. Remained in Dickson Co until around 1830, and lived thereafter in Madison and Macoupin counties of Illinois until his death in 1855. We have four autosomal tests from Jacob?s direct line.
? Joseph H. Walker, born abt 1796 GA, married Mary Gage. They are found in Lauderdale County, Alabama?DNA connects him closely with the family, his birthplace matches the family, and his birth date falls in a gap in the known family of children. This is a developing area of research, and remains unproven, but (I believe) likely. We have two autosomal tests from this line (as well as two Y-DNA), and results of two additional autosomal tests pending.
? Retha Walker, born abt 1799 GA. Married 1) unknown Turner and 2) probably Thomas Adams. Died after 1850, probably in Arkansas, possibly in Dallas County, ARK. Retha is said to have had children from her first marriage, but we have been unable to firmly identify her first husband beyond his surname, and have not found her children from that marriage. She is not believed to have had children from her second marriage.
? George H. Walker, born abt 1801 GA, married Celina King. Lived in Dickson Co TN until about 1834, when he moved his family to Marshall Co Mississippi, where they remained. We are seeking descendants of this line to test.
? Elijah Walker, b 1802 GA, married 1) Matilda and 2) Mary ?Polly? McMillan. He remained in Dickson Co TN, basically, until his death there in 1872. This is my line?I descend from the first wife Matilda. We have done autosomal testing on 7 known descendants of Elijah through his first wife Matilda, and one through his second wife Polly.
Warm thanks for any information that you can offer on your Walker background in Macoupin County?I am so looking forward to hearing from you!
