Obituary, West Plains Daily Quill:"Mary Briscoe Funeral Incomplete
Funeral arrangements for Mary Aldine Briscoe, 88, West Plains, are incomplete at this time and will be announced later by Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, West Plains.
Mrs. Briscoe died at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 1988, in Ozarks Medical Center. She was born Nov. 5, 1899, at Butler, the daughter of John H. and belle Royse Patten.
She received her education in the school systems of West Plains and Mtn. View. On July 23, 1920, she was married at West Plains to F. Lindsey Briscoe, who preceded her in death April 6, 1974. She was of the Christian faith with her membership in the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ of West Plains since 1921 where she was active in the Kurrians and Frances West Guild.
Mrs. Briscoe was active in the community for many years, having served as chairman of several March of Dimes drives, was active in the PTA for many years, was a past president of the county council of the PTA and was past president of the Federated Women?s Club. She had served as a Howell Co. Democratic committeewoman and vice chairman of the Howell County Democratic Committee. She was a past member of the board of directors of the Howell Co. Volunteers, member of the Women?s Roosevelt Club of Springfield and a past member of the National Assn. of Retired Federal Employees. Mrs. Briscoe was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 23, Mizpah Rebekah Lodge No. 77 and the Order of the Eastern Star, West Plains Chapter No. 193.
Survivors include eight children, John Briscoe, Eugene Ore., Mrs. Mary Riesbert, Sarasota, Fla., Bettie Briscoe, Springfield, Jim Briscoe, Tulsa, Okla., Bob Briscoe, State College, Pa., Bill Briscoe, West Plains, Angaline Briscoe, West Plains, and Priscilla Briscoe, New York City; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Josephine Hirst, Ontario, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Larry, five brothers and one sister.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Farm or Our Home Children?s Home and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, West Plains." |
