Hi there, I am related to Jane Ann Gilmore.

My line to me would be:
    Thomas Gilmore/Mary Reid -> John Hurlburt/Jane Ann Gilmore -> Margaret Hurlburt/John Hussey -> Myrtle Louise Hussey/Alfred Wood -> John Wood/Sandra Adams -> Brenda Wood/James Peralty -> Me. :)

My grandmother, Sandra, recently passed away, so it is always awesome to have a new family connection in this world. My father's side is super difficult to trace back, so this is doubly exciting for me.

I am slowly expanding a big family tree on MyHeritage to try to get together what I can. It helps to feel part of a big tree as my immediate family is relatively small.

    Thank you for reaching out.

    All my best,
    David

    Hi, Dave,

You have a 19.7 cM match to my husband at GedMatch: Calvin Gilmore, kit no. T551419. (That?s the new kit number?all the FTDNA kits recently required a change in number.)

I see that you descend (or I believe that?s what I understand) from Jane Ann Gilmore and her husband Hurlburt? My husband descends from her older brother George W. Gilmore. The latter fellow moved to the U.S. and served briefly in the Civil War (Union). As a result, he has a big, fat pension file that includes depositions from Jane Ann, their brother Thomas, and their brother Charles.

I am thrilled to find you. We have DNA from 1 other person on my husband's George W. line, and 2 people from Charles?s line. Wonderful if you are from Jane Ann.

I would love to know your precise line of descent. My husband?s is:

    Thomas Gilmore/Mary Reid > George W. Gilmore/Vienna Pratt > George W. Gilmore/Betsy Donald > George Gilmore/Elizabeth Wood > my husband.

Can?t wait to hear from you!

    Hi again,

I don't suppose you have a transcription of that penmanship by any chance? I'm trying to read it, but it is very slow going.

I'm so excited to add more to the family tree. I've probably spent around 1000 hours on tracing things back for my family and my wife's family. I had, up until recently, just gone straight back through parents of parents of parents without paying much attention to siblings and whatnot.

Do you have any details on the parents of Thomas Gilmore or Mary Reed? I'm assuming due to the confusion of the last name in your last message that you might not.

What can you tell me about you and your husband? Your husband would be my 3rd cousin, twice removed... I think... The whole removed thing has always been confusing to me.

A bit about myself, I am 33 years old, living in Guelph, Ontario, and working as a Director of Technology at a small financial coaching firm. I am married and currently have no kids. I have one brother who has two kids. My main family lines (so my parents and even my grandparents last names are hard to trace - Wood, Adams, Peralty and Kitchener), so I'm always interested in extended family information.

If you would like any information from me, please feel free to ask.

I really appreciate you sending me that file, so very cool to see history digitized and brought to now. :)

    David!

Just so pleased that we have this contact.

Thomas and Mary (Read/Reid/Reed) Gilmore were married in the diocese of Killala and Achonry, 1828. James, their eldest known child, was born the following year.

The military pension has a notarized (not that that means its exactly right) transcription of a Bible page said to come from the original Gilmore Bible brought from Ireland, which was somehow soaked in saltwater, and the pages transcribed into the new Bible in Thomas Gilmore?s hand, but he only transcribed the 7 of 10 children who were still living. We don?t know what year, but the ?new? Bible into which it was transcribed had a copyright date 1860?so they were transcribed at least after that, if the depositions are to be believed.

Jane Ann?s deposition is the most informative and the most definitive. I have attached hers. The whole pension file is just under 200 pages and I?m sure you don?t want it.

I have taken a lot of trouble to trace the 7 that were named and I have info on each of them. Happy to share whatever but will start with this

I'd love to know why you brought up the bible and its importance.

    Looking forward to learning more.

That's awesome about travelling! I used to live on the Queen Charlotte Is. (Haida Gwaii Islands) just north of Vancouver Island.

I live in Guelph, Ontario currently. My dad was in the military so I moved back and forth between BC and Ontario. Most of my family lives in Ontario.

My wife and I self-published our first book recently - Second Class Supers. It is on Amazon. :) I've been a fairly prolific writer online, having published more than 10,000 articles on various sites.

Enjoy your trip and feel free to email me any time. :)

OK, still working it out. I have as children of Margaret Louis Hurlbert (1868-1926) and John Franklin Hussey, the following children (from census):

    1. Iva L. Hussey, b. 28 Mar 1889, Ontario, Canada
    2. Mabel Hussey, b. 31 Jul 1891, Ontario, Canada
    3. Viola Hussey, b. Jan 1896, Ontario, Canada
    4. Ray Hussey, b. Oct 1897, Ontario, Canada
    5. Maggie E. Hussey, b. Aug 1900, Ontario, Canada

So I don?t see your Myrtle Louise among her children. What am I missing? Was there a much later child? Or might Mabel have actually been Myrtle? Or was there one in there somewhere that I missed, between Mabel and Viola?

Also, we think Ray might have been Wray. I know it is odd... but that's why my records say. And Maggie E. is Margaret Evelyn. :)
