Cumberland Evening Times:"Gunshot Fatal To Local Man
Clyde A. Ballou, 77, of RD 2, Williams Road, died this morning in Memorial Hospital minutes after being admitted with a gunshot wound in the head.
Tf. Daniel J. Kerr of the Maryland State Police said the wound was apparently self-inflicted.
Trooper Kerr said Mr. Ballou's wife heard shots from a woods back of their house and immediately called a daughter in Bowling Green who in turn called the McDonald Ambulance Service.
Mr. Ballou was born in Auburn City, Kan. [sic] October 17, 1888. He came to Cumberland in 1917 and was a retired machinist for the B&O Railroad. He was also a well-known former antique dealer.
He is survived by his widow Mrs. Katie M. (Powell) Ballou; three sons, Lawrence A. Ballou, Ridgeley; Roy L. Ballou, Philadelphia; John F. Ballou, Cumberland; three daughters, Mrs. Pearl Ray, this city' Mrs. Lucy Whetzel, Bowling Green; Miss Dorothy Ballou, Reno, ev.; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
