Land records, LaSalle Co IL
Looked line by line through the grantee index, vol 1-3, 1835-1848, FHL film 1428842; available online at FamilySearch. Found NO George Hill.
Spent time on Fold3, as he would be the right age for CW service. Several William A. Hills from IL, but nothing to suggest which one might be him. Also soldiers/sailors site, which offered these possibles:

Location: Illinois
Battle Unit: 148th Regiment, Illinois Infantry

Two Hill wills in Will Book A (1847-1859), pp. 94 (Eli) and 210 (Eldridge). Eldridge mentions brother John W., checked 1850 census and Eldridge was a reasonably young man and from Rhode Island, not PA. Neither appeared to be likely relatives of George Hill.
Checked Probate book A (1849-1851), only Eli Hill. |
