Obituary, Liberal News"Obituary
The death of Mrs. A.J. Smith marks the passing of a good woman. Mary C. Walker was born in Hickman county, Tennessee, on the 29th day of Jan. 1860. In 1876 she was blessedly converted, and united with the M. E. Church, South, of which she was a faithful member and worked as long as she was able to work. On the 17th day of January, 1878, she was married to her now bereaved husband, A. J. Smith. To this union were born twelve children, two of whom, in infantile innocency, went to be with Jesus. Ten, four sons, and six daughters, yet remain, Sam, Webb, and Ben and Mrs. Eunice Allen of Mountain View; Mrs. Alice Brooks, Mrs. Mary Hoop, Mrs. Bertha Province, Miss Fay, Miss Flossie and Walter Smith of Liberal, still linger on this side of the River
Sister Smith was a woman of irreproachable character, devotedly attached to her husband, an affectionate mother, a saintly Christian, and zealously working for the Master?s kingdom and a friend to everybody. This world was left poorer when on the 26th day of February, 1920, at 2L15 p.m. she quietly took her departure for the ?far away home of the soul?
A heart-broken husband, ten children and fourteen or more grand-children, with a multitude of sorrowing friends mourn her going. But we sorrow not as those who have no hope. We believe that she lived and died in the Lord, and that she lives again in a better world. Eight of the children and a sister, Mrs. A. W. Stokes from Payne county, Oklahoma, were present at the funeral services. Good-bye Dear Wife, good-bye Dear Mother, goodbye dear Sister, goodbye dear Grandmother and good-bye kindest of friends, till we meet again.
Funeral services were conducted at the home, Friday at 2 o?clock, Rev. M. Bell officiating. Interment at the I. O. O. F. cemetery.
